330s 14IB M.2 SSD compatability - please help!

Hello, first time poster and not very techy...hope someone can help.

I recently bought a 330s 14IKB ideapad that came with 128gb SSD. I want to ADD either a 250gb/500gb m.2 ssd to get more memory (note - i don't want to replace the exisiting 2.5 inch 128gb SSD). I have just bought a crucial m.2 SATA ssd but that appears to be incompatible with my device.

Before I go an buy another one please can someone tell me what will be compatible? From what I can gather, the remaining options are either PCIe or NVME. I'm not sure what the difference between the 2 is but more concerned with which will work.

Thank you for your help

Dave

Re: 330s 14IB M.2 SSD compatability - please help!

Hi DaveRud,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Product specification does mention M.2 SSD / PCIe 3.0 x 4 2280 similar to this that works ok as per this discussion. Other OEM recommended m.2 SSD PCIe NVMe storage are also shown here on parts lookup page same here in the hardware manual page 73.

So it is generally both PCIe interface using NVMe language protocol m.2 SSD that can be added to your current 2.5 inch SATA SSD.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Great, thanks for your help! I have just bought the Samsung one you have listed so hopefully will have no issues. I think it was the NVMe element that was confusing me. As I knew I needed PCIe

Thanks again

Hello - an update, and still no joy unfortuately :-( I bought a samsung 970 PCIe as instructed and inserted in to the slot in my laptop but i still can't find the new drive under My Computer. What am I doing wrong? Where would this addtional drive be showing? This is my 3rd attempt at adding an SSD and would really appreciate some help. Thanks

You won't see it under My Computer until it's been initialized, partitioned, and formatted.

Try Disk Management and see if it's visible there. If it is, you can set it up there.
