510-15IKB - bios update ... "Mount the EFI System Partition fail"

biosupdate 3JCN23WW (28.11.2016) for ideapad 510-15IKB ends with "Mount the EFI System Partition fail", if the hdd is formatted with mbr. but it should be possible... or in dos (h2offt.d.exe).

Mod's Edit: System model added to the front of Subject line to improve visibility / clarity.

Re: 510-15IKB - bios update ... "Mount the EFI System Partition fail"

Hi.

Model: 510-15IKB Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80SV00KWYA. In my case during the BIOS/EFI update the installation stops because the mounting process fails.

Re: 510-15IKB - bios update ... "Mount the EFI System Partition fail"

HDD was changed to SSD drive when I bought the laptop. There was no OS on it.

I have installed Windows 10 (64 bit) using USB boot system created by program Rufus and used the first option (MBR and UEFI support). On this version of Windows the installation of the mentioned   BIOS/UEFI update falied.

BUT:

On Widnwos 10 (64 bit), installed using GPT-type UEFI (3rd option in Rufus) supported USB installer the BIOS/UEFI update worked. CAUTION: after installing the new BIOS/UEFI the fan overspinned and became continouosly noisy!

I had to convert the MBR disk to GPT by using command prompt during the Windows isntallation from USB stick. This action erases the whole hard disk so back up all of your files before doing it.

Enter one by one to the command prompt the following during the Windwos installation process:

----------------------------------------------- --

Diskpart

List Disk

Select Disk 0

Clean

Convert GPT

Exit

--------------------------------------------------

Install Windows on the converted HDD/SSD and you can install ALL Lenovo drivers (downloaded from the offical Lenovo web page).

I have the same problem with the fan - it is noisy after the BIOS/UEFI update on Win 10.
