BIOS update for Ideapad Flex 4-1580 is unclear

2017-02-24, 5:05 AM

I'm having an issue with my Lenovo Ideapad Flex 4-1580: I still can't find the solution of whether it's safe or not to update the BIOS with the recommended one (shown as "BIOS Update - 10 [64]") that is a recommended update in the Lenovo Companion.  During installation, an alert message popup states:

"This BIOS is only for Lenovo ideapad 510S14IKB 310S15IKB YOGA 510-14IKB YOGA 510-151IKB. Are you sure you want to update this BIOS on this machine?"

Obviously, I am NOT sure which is why I'm here searching for the correct answer.

My machine info:

- Model: 80VE
- BIOS Version/Date: LENOVO 2SCN14WW(V1.04), 7/25/2016

Please Help?

Hi friend,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

As I understand that you have query regarding BIOS update for your Flex 4-1580

Please check this thread.

May be Lenovo Companion is detecting your system BIOS as 310S 15IKB BIOS as both are similiar by name.

So our suggestion will be to wait for the BIOS to get release for your system.

I hope the above information helped you.

Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

They are now up to V.2.05. I had the same fear about 2.04, but went ahead with the BIOS update on 8/15/2017 and it worked fine. It's very scary and confusing, but the text in the bubble that pops up states that this is indeed the right update for the FLEX 4-1580 and it did load and run fine. So, ignore the warnings that are misplaced and proceed, if my experience is any indication.
