BIOS update

Lenovo Flex 3 1580

Having the not charging issue. Another thread suggested a BIOS update.

The README text lists the Flex 3 as one of the machines the update is for. When I go to install the update, get a popup with the list of machines the update is for with no mention of Flex 3's. If I click OK on that, when I get the TOS popup, there is a list of machines the update is for highlighted in red and again, no Flex 3. The TOS says the update is specifically for the machines listed.

Is this a legit BIOS update for the Flex 3 or did someone just mess up the README txt?

Re: BIOS update

That is the link I tried using.

The page says it is for the Flex 3, The README says its for the Flex 3 but when I go to install it, says it is only for specific models and the Flex 3 is not listed.

I don't want to potentially cause more problems by downloading software that wasn't made for my machine.

Why does the web page and the README says it is for the Flex 3 but when installing, get messages that the update is only for specific models and doesn't list the Flex 3.

Re: BIOS update

I've read online recently that Lenovo customer support is horrible and I have to agree.

I have reasked the same question over the past couple of weeks and have not gotten an answer

I am seriously regretting buying this laptop.

I will ask yet again.

The link for the BIOS update says it is for the Flex 3, the README says it is for the Flex 3.

WhenI go to install it, it warns me it is only for certain models and does not list the Flex 3 and even warns that damage could be caused if I install it.

What is the deal with the BIOS update?

Are you giving out incorrect advice?

Re: BIOS update

Exedrn,

I apologise that the BIOS instructions are incomplete and do not specifically list your model.

Rest assured that BIOS D3CN35WW applies to Flex 3 1480 and Flex 3 1580 although it was not specifically stated. That BIOS can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Flex-Series/flex-3-1580/downloads/DS10...

Thank you,

Re: BIOS update

There seems to be a Catch 22 with the BIOS update.

Battery is at 0%. Machine is plugged in.

BIOS won't update unless the battery is charged.

Can't charge the battery if the BIOS is the problem.

Re: BIOS update

Usually BIOS is not the problem, althought your post is unclear.
Charge the battery up first, at least to 50%, and then update the BIOS.
If this does not work, Google: "Lenovo Bios update without battery", you might find a command line switch that bypasses the battery check.
If your Battery won't charge, unless you update the BIOS, then it is really a catch - but very unlikely scenario.

Re: BIOS update

Not exactly certain what is unclear.

Having an issue with the battery not charging. The machine is now saying no battery detected.

The tech support that works this forum suggested a BIOS update to fix the issue..

BIOS update requires full battery charge but the battery not only won't charge but is now not dectected at all. Catch 22

I have just come to the realization that this issue will never be solved because I really don't think Lenovo even knows if the problem can be solved or even cares.
