Can't install BIOS update on IdeaPad 510 15IKB 80SV

2017-01-22, 12:17 PM

Ever since I got turned on my 510 for the first time, its fan has been spinning loudly, as if it was under a heavy load. Yet it isn't. Using HWMonitor I can see the temps resides at a cool ~30 degrees when idle, but the fans spins at the same level whether the temperature is 30 or 50, idle or under load.

I figured perhaps a BIOS update would fix this problem, but I'm met with this error message.

Now, reading the error message, I can see that it addresses a EFI address. When I first got the computer, I did a clean install of Windows 10. To do this, I had to disable multiple things in BIOS such as Secure boot, Intel PTT, and enable legacy boot.

The BIOS update in question is the one below.

Hi Skuch and welcome to the communiyt,

From the looks of the change history for this BIOS it will not assist with your fan speed.

Hope this help you and let us know how you get on

Well, you never know. The packaging didn't tell it had a noisy fan either.

Thanks anyway. :-)

A SOLUTION

OK guys i made an account here just to fix your problem that i also had.

After hours of reserch and my personal satisfaction killed by lenovo bios update i finally made it without losing any data.

1. Make sure you have the lastest build of Windows 10. ( this wont work on earlier version of windows )

2.Search about MBR to GPT conversion without losing data till you find a Microsoft article, follow it.

3.After you converted your disk to GPT make sure to enter your bios and change from legacy to UEFI. Also your pc will boot faster and others ( learn about uefi vs bios on google ).

4. Get into your desktop screen and update your bios without any error.

5. After bios update make sure you get again into it and change to UEFI again because update resets your settings.

Voila! also the fan is more silent!!!
