Can't install windows 7 on IdeaPad 110

Hello,

today I purchased Lenovo IdeaPad 110 for my friend and I am supposed to put win 7 64 bit on it. I have used .iso image to create botable image using Rufus. I know that -iso image is good because I deployed in on over 30+ different brand laptops. I turn on the ideapad and set boot priority to usb first. Windows loads installer and I select the language, after that I proceed to install but it pops out a window asking me for drivers. I tried to clear and partition SSD using diskpart but without any luck, I tried to switch betwwen usb 2.0 and 3.0 ports, different usb sticks but with no luck it is always asking me for drivers (I suppose for the SSD). I can see the SSD in BIOS and in diskpart.

What to do ?

Thanks!

Hi tinovator and welcome to the community,

Unfortunately this machine is not compatible with running Windows 7 which is why there are no drivers available. You could try on the SSd Manufactures forum to see if they have one you can inject into the install.

Hope this help you and let us know how you get on

Re: Can't install windows 7 on IdeaPad 110

you can try turn on the computer, interrupt with Fn+F2 then change the Bios setting from UEFI to Legacy

then, reboot, Fn +F12 to select the usb and boot from it.

i was able to setup Win 7 but unfortunalely, there are not drivers available, which is bad because this computer will run better in 7 than Win10...

Re: Can't install windows 7 on IdeaPad 110

So two issues, one is no drivers avaialble and second you would have to install from optical drive for Windows 7 I believe. Windows 7 certainly does not support USB 3 drivers and you should probably use legacy mode in bios too. Trouble is anything SkyLake or newer and even Intel has limited driver support for Win 7. You would have better luck buying a refurb older model with Windows 7 installed. Since Windows 7 is only supported til Jan 2020 not sure its worth it. Windows 10 will run far better on newer hardware.

Re: Can't install windows 7 on IdeaPad 110

I beg to differ on Windows 7 running better. The newer hardware is optimized for Win 10 and frankly any drivers you would find for this hardware and Windows 7 would not be very current. That in itself would mean less optimized. As I said in my other comment on this subject. You could buy a laptop that supports Windows 7 and has drivers, that would be the way to go if you want Windows 7.
