Cant boot from usb Lenovo ideapad 320

2017-08-30, 14:49 PM

Hey!

Just bought the Lenovo IdeaPad 320:

i5-7200U, 8GB Ram, 1TB, GTX 940MX, FHD.

I've downloaded Windows 10 and created bootable USB. For some reason, it doesn't
show in the bios. Actually, there ain't any USB legacy at all (You can see in the photo I've added).
I don't know what to do. I've tried everything and still the pc doesn't recognize the USB.

Thank for advance,
Kfir.

I suggest that you try booting via the "Novo" button:

(1) Start with the laptop powered off.

(2) Plug in the USB memory stick that you want to boot.

(3) Press the "Novo" button (see below).

(4) On the "Novo Button Menu", select "Boot Menu".

(5) On the "Boot Menu", your USB memory stick should be listed.  It may be listed twice: once with "EFI" in the name, and once without. Select the appropriate one to start the installation:

(a) If you select the "EFI" one, you will get a UEFI install.  The target disk must already be partitioned as GPT, otherwise Windows will complain that it cannot be installed on the target disk.

(b) If you select the other one, you will get a legacy install.  The target disk must already be partitioned as MBR, otherwise Windows will complain that it cannot be installed on the target disk.

The "Novo" button is a button that is concealed beneath the casing, and which you press by inserting the end of a straightened paper clip.  Look in your "User Guide" or "Hardware Maintenance Manual" to find where the hole is located.  Both manuals can be downloaded from this web site (scroll to the bottom of this page and click "Manuals" in the "Support" column).

I've tried what you said but still, the USB drive doesn't show under the boot menu list. All i can see there is:
SATA HDD
SATA ODD
Network Boot.

I don't have any experience of your system, but my 700-15ISK has two BIOS options relating to USB.  Check your BIOS to see if you have them, and make sure that both are enabled:

"USB Legacy" (located on the "Configuration" tab)

"USB Boot" (located on the "Boot" tab)

If it still does not boot from the memory stick, I notice that you have a CD/DVD drive installed in your system.  You could try writing the Windows 10 install image to a DVD, and then try booting from the DVD.  If that does not work, maybe you could borrow a friend's or colleague's Windows 10 DVD (not their activation code, obviously), and see if that will boot (you may have created the DVD incorrectly).

If that does not work, I am out of ideas.

Sorry beforehand if my english is not correct

I have had this experience before, try setting the bios as in the picture

[1]Boot Mode "Legacy Support"
[2]Boot Priority "Legacy First"
[3]Usb Boot "Enabled"

after that save the settings and turn off the laptop
wait a few seconds while the memory stick is installed

[4]Press the "Novo" button (see below).

[5]On the "Novo Button Menu", select "Boot Menu"
[6]press "Tab" then select diagnostic splash
later will appear writing, then press enter

taadaa ... booting via usb

This works for me,
Please try

Sharing my method about making a bootable USB with you :

Install the iSeePassword WizBurn on computer , plug a USB into this computer and follow it tips to burn the iSO files to USB drive .

All process is very simple ,after this , Plug the bootable USB to your computer and reboot your computer from it , but don't forget to open your BIOS Settings and set the USB to the first boot device ,then boot your computer .

Just do that : https://www.iseepassword.com/how-to-make-bootable-usb-drive.html

Normally this can happen for several reasons:

1:The first boot sequence is not set to boot from USB .

2:The wrong with USB .

You can check the Biso Settings or make a new one.

I have seen a lot of people want to create Windows 10 bootable USB but they don't have idea or way to do it.

According to my knowledge, there are two best ways to create Windows 10 bootable USB.

  •  We can use Rufus Tool. Just Download and install this tool and then Open the tool and choose the USB which you want to create bootable media.

Here's a simple guide you can follow: https://techloris.com/create-a-windows-10-install-usb/

Didn't your laptop come preinstalled with Windows 10? Why would you install it again? During the setup process, you would most likely even require an external keyboard and mouse as the Lenovo devices seem to be so special that they require extra drivers in the Windows Boot Image. Installing it in Legacy mode would not make sense anyway. When your stick doesn't show up in the Boot Manager at all, your stick might be defective.
