Display Driver Crashing - New Ideapad 720s-13ARR

I'm currently having trouble with my Display Drivers crashing when watching youtube or videos on facebook. The laptop is about 2 months old and has already been reformatted via system recovery (stock image). All windows and lenovo updates have been installed. There are no new graphics/driver updates from AMD that I can install.

I had the laptop replaced the 2nd day owning it as I though it was a defected motherboard/video card. At this point, I think there is more of a driver issue. Has anyone had an issue like this. Asided from this, I love the laptop. I will open a ticket with support on Monday during normal operation hours.

Issue: While watching videos, screen browser goes black for a few seconds and then recovers. This happens on both Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Hope you find a solution; I returned the laptop back to Lenovo for a full refund.

Re: Display Driver Crashing - New Ideapad 720s-13ARR

I have the same issue, and it seems like it's not a driver issue. It's a BIOS issue.

Due to a post in AMD community, hp envy x360 had the same issue and got solved by a BIOS update. But our BIOS update -- the 6KCN37WW isn't able to be flashed on my machine since my current version is v29.

You can just disable "Hardware-accelerated video decode" if you're using chrome. But it's just a compromise. It'll be less smooth when playing videos.

I hope Lenovo can give us a workable way to update BIOS.

Have tried:

1. Change TDP value

2. Using Windows build 1803 at first, since I thought Windows problem, I roll back to build 1503.

3. Reinstall AMD Driver

4. Reisntall display driver from Device manager, restart laptop.

5. I know there is BIOS Update and I heard it can brick your laptop.

6. Frustrated, download BIOS Update (6kcn37ww)  and try to flash it. It didnt work, since my Windows version is 1503 (Its 1803, i think something wrong with this BIOS update)

Its really annoying, please Helpp..

Re: Display Driver Crashing - New Ideapad 720s-13ARR

I found I had to reduce video quality to under HD for it to work. I never use mine on battery, either. Hope this helps.

Me either. I bought this laptop only 1 month ago, which frustrates me a lot. I found that this kind of graphic problem in this model is often and the graphic company AMD has no solution.

Is there a solution to the problem that we can apply?

This driver failure occurs very frequently.
