Edge 2 - Hinge attachment for screen broke

I have a Lenovo Edge 2.  I recently went to close the screen after using it and it wouldn't close.  I thought that a hinge broke so I ordered a hinge and started to replace it today.  After taking the bottom off and inspecting the hinge, it isn't broke.  Where the hinge attaches to the LCD screen, it is broke.  I need to know what I need to do to fix the hinge attachment point of the screen.  I can't find much information on the attachment point so I'm not sure if it is part of the back of the screen or what.  Thanks for any information that you can provide.

Jay

Re: Edge 2 - Hinge attachment for screen broke

Following.  I have this same issue.  My wife went to close the screen and the screen started to come apart from the frame.  the hinge is really stiff so I'm thinking that wherever the hinge attaches to inside is broken.  What can I do to fix this?

Re: Edge 2 - Hinge attachment for screen broke

I accually have the exact same problem.  It seems there is a retainer that is pressed into the mold of the LCD frame.  When this brass retainer detach's from the frame, the tension of the hinge is what warps the display when you attempt to move it.

I actually considered removing the entire assemply and using some strong epoxy to re-seat the retainer.  The other option I was thinking was to get the smalles machine screw/washer/nut and actually drill through the LCD frame and re-seat it that way.  It would get the job done, but it wouldn't look pretty.

I haven't taken it to a repair shop, but I'm pretty sure they will say that I'll need a new panel.  I've seened used ones on ebay for about $140, but no guarantee it will be any better.  Needless to say, the engineering team should have thought of coming up wiht a better solution for seating this hinge to the frame.  Maybe 2 retainers to spread the load.
