The hinge on my computer broke last night all of a sudden. Nothing has happened to the computer; I've never dropped it, nothing has hit it, nothing has happened that should cause it to break. When it broke, the screen fell forward and it cracked the screen. I have looked everywhere on this website for someone to contact about how to get it fixed but all I can find is a link to FedEx to begin a service order. Has this ever happened to anyone else and does anyone know how much it would be to get it fixed? Is it worth it to ship it to Lenovo or would it be better to take it to a local repair person? Unfortunately the warrenty ended about six months ago.

Hi lauraem93 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
You may simply go to any nearest Best Buy repair center as they usually have Lenovo certified tech to perform the needed repair without any additional shipping cost. Another option is using the service center locator to call in to check for out of warranty repair .
Hope this help answer your query.

I had the exact same thing happen last night. I went to close my laptop and I heard a crack. The back of the screen had separated at the left hinge. I tried to hold the screen and case together and close the laptop, but the screen then cracked in the lower left corner. I then tried to open the laptop, holding the case and screen together, and it cracked more! I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do next. I'm not enthusiastic about taking it to BestBuy as I can onbly assume the repair job will be at least $100 for labor and probably at least another $100 for the replacement screen. The laptop was only around $700 when I first purchase it (if I recall correctly) several years ago, and I don't see how replacing the screen is going to address a design flaw with the hinges. This is my 3rd Lenovo machine and by far the least impressive.

Took mine to BestBuy Geeks where I bought it 18 months ago and they said they had no idea how to fix it other than sending it back to mfg plus could not give me an estimate of cost.
This defintiey seems like a defect!
