Re: Flex 2-15 Laptop cracked case

Seeking help with a cracked case for my Flex 2-15 laptop. Has anyone else had problems with the top case separating from the glass screen and cracking? The top has always been tight and a little tough to open which I feel has put a lot of stress on the case.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Flex 2-15 Laptop cracked case

Hi cstngrx4,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

If you have the needed tools for replacing the parts, you can review the hardware manual and service training module (highlighted) for the disassembly guide.

Locating and ordering the parts reference here.

Parts lookup page can also get you the parts (covers and/or mechanical assembly for LCD and hinge if needed) needed.

I haven't seen much cases in our community about cracking upper cover but I would agree that this may be a stress made to those area.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Re: Flex 2-15 Laptop cracked case

Thanks spidey101 for the info. I may just take it in somewhere to see how much it would cost to fix it, but my guess is it would be more than I would want to spend. I'm very disappointed in the lifetime of this laptop and doubt I will buy a Lenovo product ever again. Lesson learned I guess. Again, I appreciate your quick response and assistance!

Re: Flex 2-15 Laptop cracked case

I have the exact same problem with my Flex 2-15 but not as severe as yourse yet. While I've used it very (VERY) carefully and not let many other people use it, I noticed today a crack in the housing. Luckily this was before I opened it and broke it all the way through, but it came with normal usage.

The laptop was never fallen or hit with anything and as you explain it's been a little tough to open but in my experience not too much. I've also noticed ealy on the screen was flexing relatively much at that location, so my conclusion is that this is a design fault due to which the housing is not strong enough to withstand this amount of flexing which causes the back cover to crack.

I'm going to try and bring it back for repairs as it's failed before end-of-lifetime, but I haven't got any warranty anymore so I'm curious if I'll get refunded. If not I'm probably going to fix it myself, I'll keep you guys up to date.

Re: Flex 2-15 Laptop cracked case

Same problem here mine isn't that bad yet but I'm afraid it's going to pull away from the screen even more then it already has. But I took it to Best Buy Geek Squad and they said it can't be fixed

Re: Flex 2-15 Laptop cracked case

No one could do anything for mine either. I do suggest you turn off your touch screen though. Eventually the crack went entirely across my glass screen and the computer went nuts because it reacted to the crack on the screen as if I was using it as a touch screen and it made it nearly impossible for me to use the computer. I did have a 15-20 second window when I opened my computer to disable the touch screen and now I am able to use my computer just fine. Of course I didn't figure this out until I bought a new computer but at least it works!

Re: Flex 2-15 Laptop cracked case

Did they tell you why it can't be fixed? I've already ordered a new part from aliexpress with the corresponding FRU number from the Lenovo parts list:

Re: Flex 2-15 Laptop cracked case

Too much damage I imagine. Besides now my entire screen is cracked. With it being 3-4 yrs old I wouldn't want to put too much money into it anyway. I just won't buy another Levovo!

Re: Flex 2-15 Laptop cracked case

Hi All,

Greetings.

As we know that the screen is replaceable (with directions provided from the manual), it may still have a good resale value if you manage to find a cheaper display.

Considering that performance wise with a good systemboard, you can set it with a separate HMDI monitor as a backup unit just in case your main pc gets in trouble.

Regards
