Flex 3 1480 memory limit

I have he flex 3 1480 with 8gb of RAM and have been told I'm maxed out (not happy)

Is the 8gb soldered in?

Can it be swapped out for more? 16gb?  32gb?

If so, do you have a manufacturerer and part #?

THANKS!!!

Re: Flex 3 1480 memory limit

Hi doverwood ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As per hardware specifications (page 28) :

RAM: 1,600 MHz SODIMM × 1 (max 8 GB) as OEM recommeded limit tested for best operability and functionality.

Same reason that recommended RAM listed ( page 84 item 9) limits to 8 GB even thou CPU may be able to handle more as example for i3-6100U showing limit up to 32GB). The BIOS may not be able to support it even if CPU can handle 16GB or 32GB.

Product specification : 8GB max / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, one 204-pin SO-DIMM socket is not soldered and is removable (page 42).

I would not suggest buying yet but if you have a spare 16GB with the same specification, then it would be worth to try.

With current 8 GB ram , try to check if you really need more with your daily usage using task manager.

Hope this help answer your query.

Update us what works best for you.

Regards

Re: Flex 3 1480 memory limit

Hi doverwood ,

Would you applications and usage reach 80-90 % on memory with the current RAM installed ?

Getting back to your initial question , 8GB is the OEM recommended max ram and is removable.

8 GB are considered a sweet spot for most daily usage not unless virtual OS is needed and multiple browsers are open all at the same time (20-30+) . Considering that a 16 GB low power DDR3 costing , sure be helpful if you have an IT friend that owns one for trial or return options with no stocking fee when ordered.

For sure , in the near upcoming months folks would be trying 16GB and we would have someone here on our community to verify. Check back with us every now and then.

Best luck to all your endeavors.

Regards
