I have had this problem ever since I purchased the laptop. The screen will go black/blank, but the backlight will still be on. Can't do anything and have to turn off and restart. It happens about once an hour or so. Originally it happened less frequently/more when the power supply was not connected. Now it happens regardless if the power supply is connected. I also have text distortion on the screen at times. I have tried to update display drivers/downgrade drivers, nothing has worked for me. Really starting to get annoying. Any suggestions?

Hi there, Ginger -
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.
In response to customer reports of displays or screens turning off on Lenovo systems while in use and running on battery power, Lenovo has released a solution via update to the Intel Management Engine Firmware, v.188.8.131.526.
The Intel ME Firmware has been approved for the following models:
ideapad 300S-14ISK, ideapad 500S-14ISK
Lenovo Edge 2-1580
Lenovo Flex 3-1480, Flex 3-1580,
Yoga 500-14ISK, Yoga 500-15ISK
The Intel ME Firmware can be downloaded here:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds105001
If the solution provided by Lenovo does not resolve the issue for you, other customers report that a workaround provided by customer MattDN93 also resolves the issue. More information about the workaround can be found here:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-100-305-500-Edge/Flex-3-screen-turns-off-when-working-on...
Update us how it goes.

I have tried everything, I installed this Intel ME update, I have updated the BIOS to 32WW which was a lot of hassle, then I updated windows to the latest version. Nothing works.
Also, the screen goes blank regardless of whether or not the laptop is plugged in. It is completely random, and like the original poster said, the backlight remains on, and the keyboard LEDs remain on, everything else stops working and the laptop must be restarted. All work is lost. The computer is rendered completely useless.
I have searched online ceaselessly and I have found threads that are many years old that report this problem for a lot of Lenovo devices. So clearly Lenovo is shortchanging us here. I don't want this product anymore. It is completely useless. I am still in warranty, I want my money back or an exchange for a model that works.

I have had the same issue since I purchased this laptop-- this renders it unusable for any serious work since the random needed hard reboots cause me to lose all work. I installed the fix mentioned in this forum and the issue persists! I am extremely disapointed that this issue seems to have no solution after months of many users complaining.

Reformat. Reinstall windows using a bootable usb, and let windows install drivers and dont even install any lenovo trashware. I would even remove the lenovo partition. Sounds dumb but it works. My laptop is fine ever since i did that.
