HDD to SSD for IdeaPad 320-14AST

Hi, guys. I want to upgrade my drive to SSD. Is my notebook support and which type of SSD should I bought; PCIE or SATA? And if it's SATA, is my notebook support SATA 3?

Dying for your help, guys. Thank you!

Re: HDD to SSD for IdeaPad 320-14AST

Hi apridhanarga,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can share the machine number (MTM) from the sticker or from here.

WIth the machine number, we can be specific regarding having 2 storage with your model.

Storage in general overview:

  • Form factor: 2.5-inch, 7 mm
  • Capacity: SSD + HDD
    (on select models)
  • Interface: SATA 2/SATA 3

Update us soon as convenient.

Regards

Re: HDD to SSD for IdeaPad 320-14AST

Hi, Peter Parker

Here's the thing: I want to replace my HDD with SSD and take out the optical drive and replace it with HDD caddy. What's your opinion?

My questions:

1. Is there any slot in my notebook for upgrade to SSD?

2. Does my notebook support SATA 3?

2. If there is not, which type of HDD caddy should I buy? As far as I know, there are 2 type of HDD caddy, 9.5mm and 12mm.

Re: HDD to SSD for IdeaPad 320-14AST

Hi apridhanarga,

Greeetings.

Using parts lookup page checked with the systemboard and does not show any other available port for storage:

Spoiler

No other slot for SSD upgrade other than current HDD similar to those offered  in the FRU list (manual item 13 page 86-87) and crucial for SATA 3 supported interface.

There are not much success verified using the ODD space as HDD (usually with 9.5mm caddy). Although some modifications can be made similar to this video. On another video here can be another option but we cannot be sure that it would be the same for the 14AST variants.

Take time to review caddy option before any purchase.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards
