I want to upgrade RAM on my Ideapad 300S-14ISK

Hello All,

I have just bought Ideapad 300S-14ISK last month. It came with 4GB RAM only and I found it way too slow even for simple task like browsing the web using a few Firefox tabs. I am thinking to upgrade the RAM to 16 GB to get a better performance.

Using CPU-Z tool, I found that my notebooks has Samsung 4 GB DDR3L 1600Mhz single rank unbuffered non-ECC module with CAS Latency 11-11-11-28.  At the moment, I am interested in getting RAM from Corsair 16 GB kit (2 x 8 GB). They have at least two products:

- Value Select, with CAS Latency 11-11-11-28

- Vengeance, with CAS Latency 9-9-9-24

My question is, can I use the Corsair Vengeance in Ideapad 300? Will it run and able to take the benefit of using high performance memory modules?

HI.

@Tomat

Upgrade your computer With DDR3 1600MHz memory - The Quickest, Easiest way to boost performance! Adding additional memory is one of the MOST cost effective ways to make your operating system and applications run faster, you could have problems with the voltage of the corsair memories are 1.5 V and your computer runs with 1.35 V.

DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz 204-pin SODIMM

Kit Contents: x1 Module
Memory Brand: kingston 2 slot 2X8= 16GB.
Product Warranty: Free Lifetime Warranty
System Warranty:
Compatibility: 100% Guaranteed Certified & Compatible with your Lenovo IdeaPad and All Operating Systems
Speed: 1600MHz (PC3-12800)
Technology: DDR3 SDRAM
Pins: 204-pin, Gold Connectors
Form Factor: SODIMM (Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module)
Module Dimensions: 67.6mm x 30mm (LxH)
Data Integrity: Non-ECC
Ranking: 1R, 2R, 4R
Voltage: Low - 1.35V
CAS Latency: You will receive memory with the correct CAS Latency for your model.

It is advisable to contact the technical service for compatibility of your computer and memories:

compatibility with laptops with Intel Core 2nd and 3rd generation processors
1.5 volts Vengeance SODIMM kits are designed for notebooks with a second or third generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor. Many laptops - including those sold as performance systems - are equipped with memory that is not capable of running at the maximum speed supported by the processor.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Re: I want to upgrade RAM on my Ideapad 300S-14ISK

Hello @i7_intel36U,

According to Corsair website they do have Vengeance DDR3L running on 1.35V http://www.corsair.com/en/vengeance-16gb-high-performance-laptop-memory-upgrade-kit-cmsx16gx3m2b1600... I have used one Kingstom RAM in the past and had some problems.

Is there any way to find out which memory type/spec is supported in Ideapad 300? My notebook has Intel Core i5-6200U SkylakeU, if I go by Intel's specification this CPU actually support DDR4 too. I don't want DDR4 just DDR3 with better CAS Latency will be enough for my usage (office work).

Re: I want to upgrade RAM on my Ideapad 300S-14ISK

Hi @defender007,

The laptop is just one month old and I have not installed many applications. Just MS Office, Internet browsers, iTunes, and PDF reader. So I believe it's still very clean no need for reimaging yet. Slowness happens if I have multiple applications running simultaneously, like Outlook, MS Word, Firefox.. at this point if I click any icon in Windows taskbar it takes 5-10 seconds to load.

Re: I want to upgrade RAM on my Ideapad 300S-14ISK

Hello,

I was under the impression that this machine has only ONE memory slot and can have UPTO 8GB.

Were you able to install 2 ram sticks of 8GB each or did you install just one stick of 8GB or 1 stick of 16GB or some other configuration?

Thanks

Re: I want to upgrade RAM on my Ideapad 300S-14ISK

I did open the  laptop and see only ONE slot that had 8GB stick - Hynix 8GB PC3L - 12800S.

Any ideas how to figure if it would accept a 16GB stick?

Thanks,

I am afraid your model is limited to 8GB maximum memory, look in the Hardware maintenance manual for confirmation:

Re: I want to upgrade RAM on my Ideapad 300S-14ISK

I'm afraid once cannot take the HMM at face value.

Too often, I've seen laptops accept more RAM than what the manual states.

Hence am looking to purchase a 16GB stick and if that does not work, return it. Which place is most return friendly - Newegg, Frys or some other store?
