Idea Pad 500 Audio Issues

Hopefully, someone here can help me with a problem that's driving me crazy.

The Dolby audio from my Idea 500 laptop is conflicting with my Windows Fall Creations update.

I was able to defer installing the Windows Anniversary Update, because of the many issues I had heard about it.

But no matter what I did, blocking it in my Windows Firewall, uninstalling the Windows Update Assistant Tool every other day, or disabling Windows Updates in Services, I couldn't stop the Windows Fall Creations update from being installed on my laptop and now the audio sounds terrible. It sounds hollow and low.

If I turn off the Dolby app, it sounds a little better, but the audio still too hollow and even lower.

I have updated my Realtek HD audio driver from their website, unticked Enhancements, and basically have tried everything I could find online to fix this, but nothing works.

Is it possible to upgrade the Dolby app or update any drivers associated with it?

I don't want to uninstall the Windows Fall Creators update, because I'll have to fight Windows every day from trying to update my system all over again.

Incidentally, I've had no issues whatsoever with the Windows Fall Creators update other than the audio issues, which is a critical drawback.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can give me.

Re: Idea Pad 500 Audio Issues

Hello Knasih67

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Not sure which Idea 500 you have, but have a look, make sure it is on this list:

If it`s not then it will likely be that the unit is not been tested with the update yet, so Lenovo can`t guarantee it working as it should.

Try to download the Chipset drivers for the unit from the support page. Make sure to reboot after an update on the unit.

Unfortuantely I have not used the Dolby app before, but I wonder, does it have some sort of equializer in there? It may be that the settings in there have to be changed around to get a different effect.

Something along the lines of a posting here perhaps:

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: Idea Pad 500 Audio Issues

Thank you for your response, Krakken.

I had given up on receiving an answer to my post here, so the automated email from Lenovo, letting me know I had a response was a surprise.

My laptop is a Ideapad 500-15ISK, so it's on the list that you shared for being compatible with the Windows Fall Creators update.

In fact, I've had no problems whatsoever with this update, other than the audio being more muffled and lower.

The Dolby app that's with my laptop is very basic and is built into the system and "Professionally turned by Lenovo," as it says on the front of the app, so I wouldn't even know where to begin to upgrade it to an advanced Dolby app.

It has a basic equalizer, but I don't know how to set it or think it will make much difference to the overall sound.

If you know how I can upgrade my Dolby app to an advanced Dolby app, please let me know.

Thank you for your assistance.
