IdeaPad 100 Keeps Overheating

I have been having a problem recently with my Ideapad 100, i recently bought it in April it is brand new. Whenever i play Counterstrike,League of Legends, any sort of game of my laptop it seems to overheat and freeze forcing me to manually turn off my laptop. I dont know why I am having this issue i have tried lowering all preformance options, and also all settings on the game i am playing. If someone could help me fix this that would be awesome !

Re: IdeaPad 100 Keeps Overheating

Hi there, Jster  -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Overheating is a common issue in laptops, especially on gaming. Check if your laptop is overheating from sides and below.

Your battery or charging adapter/cable might be faulty, causing problems. You can detect them easily in games but not easily on desktop.

Make sure the heatsink is on tight, that CPU might actually be overheating.

Most common cause of crashes is overheating.

Your computer needs good ventilation to avoid overheating. Make certain that the ventilation holes aren’t blocked by dust or other debris. It can be due to running a CPU-intensive program or game continuously for a long time. If the latter is the case, you may need to take steps to provide extra ventilation, or cool the air flowing around or through your computer.

Update us how it goes.

Re: IdeaPad 100 Keeps Overheating

Your CPU / GPU might be overheating and it's throttling down - this would cause your CPU GPU to operate in a low frequency. Try to monitor your CPU by using CoreTemp and your GPU by using GPU Shark or Afterburner.

If you get high temperatures, you can try to decrease the heat by:

  1. Using a good quality cooling pad that runs on high RPM or a better cooling in your room.
  2. Replacing the stock Thermal Interface Material with a good quality TIM likeNoctua NT-H1Tuniq TX-4, or Artic Silver 5.
