IdeaPad 100 - USB charging in sleep mode

Hi

A recurrent question but I did not find the answer for my laptop and the Lenovo setting application doesn't provide the feature.

I want to be able to charge my phone on the USB port when the laptop is in sleep mode with AC plug-in.

Where can I find for my laptop the option "USB always on" ?

I check the BIOS and nothing there around USB charging and the Lenovo setting application section Power Management does not show any option for the USB.

Should I go in a special application ? Is it standard or should I install the Lenovo companion ?

Thanks for your help

Re: IdeaPad 100 - USB charging in sleep mode

Welcome to the Forums Nico!

Method 1:

Press F2 when you boot up your ThinkPad

Select Config --> USB --> check if "Always On USB" is [Enabled]

Method 2:

Once boot into Windows, Open Power Manager

In Power Manager, select "Global Power Settings"

Tick "Enable Always On USB"

Do take note that you would need the "Yellow USB" port in order to charge your devices as the normal USB ports does not supply enough voltage.

Method 3:

  1. Click Start -> in the start search field type: Device Manager, press enter. If you are prompted for access either press continue or supply the necessary username and password.
  2. When Device Manager opens, expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers category.
  3. Here you will see several USB Root Hub listings, for each right-click and select Properties.
  4. In the properties window, click Power Management.
  5. Uncheck ‘Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power’, click OK.

Method 4:

When laptop lid is closed, by default on Windows it should automatically go to sleep mode - which makes your USB stop working unless you lift the lid up.

To prevent this from happening, simply go to:

Control Panel

Power Options

Click on Change plan settings next to selected power plan

Click on Change advanced power settings text in this window

In the Power Options window, search for Power buttons and lid settings

Under this you will find a Lid close action setting

From the dropdown menu select Do nothing option to prevent your laptop go to Sleep mode when you put down a lid.

Let us know if it helps.

Re: IdeaPad 100 - USB charging in sleep mode

Hi Sashi

Thanks for your quick answer.

1/ I don't have this option in my BIOS menu

2/ I don't have the Lenovo Power Management only Lenovo Settings and this option is not existing there

3/ This is in place but it doesn't help

4/ This is option is not applicatble in my case as I want my laptop to go in sleep but by keeping the charging possibility

For 2/, do I have to install a software because as I said I don't have this option in the Power Management section of Lenovo settings app.

Re: IdeaPad 100 - USB charging in sleep mode

Sorry i don't have an Ideapad 100 to check, but generally, machines so equipped have one or more of the USB ports colored yellow, which identifies them as Always-On-capable. Do you see any such ports on your machine?

Please uncheck that option.Once you do this for all USB Root Hub devices, you will be able to continue charging your phone even if you’re close your laptop lid.

As per the support site, Lenovo app has an option Always on USB.

Re: IdeaPad 100 - USB charging in sleep mode

Hi

All ports are black on my machine (no colored one).

Moreover, I installed Win10 and the latest version of Lenovo Settings from Windows store but I still can't see the "Always on" option in the app.

Any other advice?
