Ideapad 100 15-IBD Operative System Installation

Hi everybody. I have a friend (currently working an another country, it makes things difficult) that has bought a computer from Lenovo but we are unsure of how to install a operative system, it didn't come with a cd or anything.

Typically, is a Windows 10-Product key included? There's no note on the computer itself that speaks of it. Do we have to buy a Windows 10 License separately? Is a CD or USB invariably necessary? If it's included, how do we find out what it is?

Regards

Re: Ideapad 100 15-IBD Operative System Installation

Hi rowyourboat ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the machine number ?

Ideapad 100 15-IBD was released with different versions .

Yours maybe ones without windows and have Free-Dos instead.

Starting with Windows 8 ,OEM no longer have product key printed on the Microsoft label but is embeded on the systemboard.

If you instead have a Free-Dos version , you would need to purchase your own Windows installer and key (windows 7 , 8, 10 with drivers available from the support site).

The optical drive (CD /DVD) are optional so it may or may not be available on your version depending on your order . In such event USB installation would be needed and maybe downloaded from media creation tool of Microsoft (windows 10 / 8.1) and activate with a purchased product key.

To check if your order came with Windows or not , check on the specifications using your machine number or serial number or call in technical support or from the store.

Hope this answered your query.

Regards

Re: Ideapad 100 15-IBD Operative System Installation

Hi! Thanks, your answer was very helpful. I do not have the machine number, but I found the parts lookup page with the serial number.

It does indeed seem that it came without a Windows key, but I'm frankly not sure how to interpret this page 'Smiley Very Happy

Under "service parts", the following parts are listed:

ST1000LM024 6G 9.5mm 5.4K 1T (Hard Drives)

Delta ADP-45DW C 20V2.25A (AC Adapters)

L15L4A01 14.4V32Wh4cell btyC (Rechargeable Batteries)

MBL80QQ I35005UP UMA NOK (SYSTEM BOARDS)

BO NT156WHM-N12 V5 HDT G F NB (LCD PANELS)

PLDS DA-8A6SH 9.0 Rambo ODD (OPTICAL DRIVES)

RMT3170MN68F9F-1600 4GB (MEMORY)

And then two parts with no description. Would this mean that there was no Windows key included in the purchase?

Re: Ideapad 100 15-IBD Operative System Installation

Hi rowyourboat ,

Greetings.

MBL80QQ I35005UP UMA NOK (SYSTEM BOARDS)

NOK is No Key so you would have to get a retail Windows or other OS to use.

Regards
