bought this laptop couple of weeks ago, running fine EXCEPT...
Right side USB3-port is somehow broken/malfunctioning/etc., when I plug in my external 500GB Transcend Storejet USB3 drive it won´t get detected at all, not in Windows (just updated to 1803 without cure), nor in UEFI setup or in Live Linux. In Windows, all that I get is constant Windows detection sound, that continues as long as drive is plugged in.
Strange thing is that all other devices like mobile phones, USB sticks or mouse work just fine in that port. And same external drive works just fine when plugged into left side port. And of course in other computers as well.
Maybe this is some kind of power issue? And if so is this a feature or system failure? One would assume that all ports can provide adequate power to USB devices?

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.
If the drive works with other units, its very likely that there will be an issue with the power itself, if it keeps detecting it but not actually doing anything with it, it basically means it`s constantly turning on and off, getting connected/disconnected.
Unfortuantely I don`t have the unit, so can`t exactly confirm, but if you`re able to, you could test the power outage with a USB tester, a basic one is fairly inexpensive.
Also, you could try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.
(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Hi maurits! Were you able to try other USB devices if it will work with the USB 3 of your laptop where you're trying to connect your external hard drive? If the USB 3 works with other USB devices, it's an indication of a hardware failure and the laptop needs to be repaired.

Hi. Both the Seagate external drive and the Ideapad are brand new. The external dirve works fine with other laptops. I tried with a memory stick instead and that works with the IdeaPad USB 3. I believe the issue has to do with the HW controller/ driver/ Windows 10. Is there any Lenovo drivers I may need to (re)install in Windows 10?
