I have recently bought a Ideapad 17AST (80XW-series) laptop, but there is not internal optical drive. I would like to install one.
But here is the problem;
I can't find the datasheet anywhere for the exact measurement for the optical drive.
Also I can't find the optical drive on the official site here.
I have measured it and I think it is 9.0mm, but that is not a optical drive standard. Is this even possible?
Who can help me out with selecting the right optical drive please?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Community Forums.
Using parts lookup tool here, shows recommended optical drive for Machine Type: 80XW along with 12 substitutes:
Part number 5DX0L08424 PLDS DA-8AESH 9.0mm DVDWriter ODD
Part number 5DX0J46488 HLDS GUE0N 9.0mm internal DVD RW ODD
Make sure that you also have the internal components like the ODD bracket , bezel and ODD board with cable as listed here in the hardware manual (pages 71-77).
Hope this helps answer your query.

Hey, and thank you for the help.
I have more questions:
now those should fit into the laptop, but where can I buy them?
I also must have the internal components, but I have no clue if I have them. I now have and empty tray going in the ODD slot. Is that what I need?
If I buy one of those DVDwriters, I will also need the frontplate, so it matches nicely with the laptop. Any ideas where to look for that?

Using the same Machine Type: 80XW shows:
Part number 5C50P15336 ODD BOARD W/FFC L80XW
Part number 5B30N86570 ODD BEZEL L80XL TEXTURE COOL GREY
Using your serial number, check if yours have the the ODD board from the parts lookup page, the frontplate would be the bezel. Below is the article how to search for part and where to order it. You can follow it else if not available , use the part number to search online for third party resellers in your location or check with your local service centers.
