The mute button for F4 isn't working. It was fine just 2 days ago, but now it stopped working and I can't mute myself. How can I fix this?

So what has changed in the last two days?
-- Windows updates?
-- BIOS update?
-- new versions of drivers installed?
Using the "F" keys to perform functions like mute, volume up, volume down, brightness up, brightness down, airplane mode on/off, etc., is called "hot-key mode". Do any of the other hot keys still work, or are they all now inoperative?
If it is only F4 that no longer works, the workaround is to use software control to mute the sound. Click the loudspeaker icon at the right end of the "Task Bar" , and then click the loudspeaker icon at the left end of the horizontal volume bar. That will mute the sound. Click it again to enable the sound.
