I know there are a number of posts on this subject but I have not found any which help my case. My trackpad continually freezes and the only way to get the cursor to move again is by hitting the space bar which will also cause the screen to scroll or something else to happen such as volume on a video to increase. This is with the Synaptics driver. If I take out the Synaptics driver then the trackpad has barely any function and cannot hold and move things etc. I have tried repairing and reinstalling Windows 10 but nothing seems to make any difference.

When did you notice the problem with the touchpad? Were there any changes or updates prior the issue? Are you having the same issue using an external mouse? Please observe the performance of the computer in safe mode. Booting to safe mode will help us diagnose if the issue is hardware or software related. You may follow the steps on this link: https://lnv.gy/2nKkgYP on how to boot to safe mode. Let us know how it goes.

I have gone through the uninstall procedure. I did get some sort of error message during the uninstall and did not get all of the pop ups you mentioned. I rebooted and re-installed but it is no better and is constantly freezing, requiring hitting the space bar to make it work again.

What is the error message you received while you're trying to uninstall the driver? Could you send us a screenshot for us to check? Is there a bang or exclamation point on the Synaptics driver from the Device Manager? Could you try again to uninstall the driver and take a screenshot if there is an error. Let us know the result.

I tried to uninstall again and nothing is happening - no popup messages at all. It is now not showing on device manager but when I try to install it says it is already there. If I try and use the automatic updates I get a message at the end that the driver is not needed as there is no device to install it to.

Please make sure to restart the laptop once you're done uninstalling the driver. This way, the system will be refreshed and a generic one will be installed. To update the driver, please download the Lenovo Vantage app here https://lnv.gy/2CBWRmC.
