Ideapad 320 (Windows 10 OS): No Sound But Speakers Work During Troubleshooting Tests

Hi all:

This is my first post here.  I look forward to anyone that can help me solve this maddening problem.  Suddenly, the sound no longer works on my Ideapad 320 laptop with Windows 10 operating system.  I have checked that the volume is at maximum and that the speaker is NOT muted.  Further, I have tried to solve this problem by accessing "Troubleshoot Sound Problems" by right clicking the speaker icon at the bottom right of my screen.

After clicking the "Troubleshoot Sound Problems", I am eventually asked what audio that I want to troubleshoot.  See pic#1.  I choose the first choice:  “Speakers Realtek High Definition Audio (Current Default Device)” and then click “Next”.

I am then questioned as to whether I desire to turn on or off sound effects (end result does not seem to be affected by this choice as I have made both choices multiple times and result has always been the same).  See pic#2.  For this exercise I have clicked on choice entitled “Yes, Open Audio Enhancements”.

After clicking “Yes, Open Audio Enhancements”, I am directed to a screen where I choose between “Play Test Sounds” and “Skip This Step”.  I click on “Play Test Sounds”.  Various sounds are played on the laptop’s speakers successfully and I then click on “Good Keep on using my current audio driver”.  See pic#3

After clicking on “Good Keep on using my current audio driver”, I receive a message as follows:

Troubleshooting has completed

Troubleshooting was unable to automatically fix all of the issues found.  You can find more details below:

Problems found

Generic audio driver                             Detected       Yellow Triangle Warning Symbol

See pic#4

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.  Pics posted in reverse chronological order (by accident).

Re: Ideapad 320 (Windows 10 OS): No Sound But Speakers Work During Troubleshooting Tests

Hi! Thank you for reaching us! We would like to take closer look at this aduio issue. To isolate this first, have already tried to connect a headset or headphone to check if there will audios comming out from it?

Have you also tried downloading the available Audio Drivers from our site in this link: https://lnv.gy/2L02Q3p ? Simply enter the serial number of the laptop, then got to "Driver and Software" tab, then expand "Audio", and then you can download the Audio driver from there. -Mario_Lenovo

Re: Ideapad 320 (Windows 10 OS): No Sound But Speakers Work During Troubleshooting Tests

Audio driver downloaded (details as follows):  Realtek Audio Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Notebook, Realtek Audio_6.0.1.8245, 23 Nov 2017

First time I tried to install driver, I eventually received a message that my existing driver was the same or better as the downloaded driver.  As a result, I manually deleted the driver and then tried to reinstall the driver.  Instead, I received the following message:

"The device driver installation wizard did not update any of your

software for your hardware devices becasue it was not better than

the software that you have currently installed."

Re: Ideapad 320 (Windows 10 OS): No Sound But Speakers Work During Troubleshooting Tests

I plugged my headphones in this morning and received no sound from playing youtube, vimeo, nbc news through the headphones.  However, I clearly heard all the test sounds during the audio troubleshooting through the headphones.  Please confirm that this issue should be treated as software/driver problem.

Re: Ideapad 320 (Windows 10 OS): No Sound But Speakers Work During Troubleshooting Tests

I fixed it.  Although embarassed to tell all that it was a problem with my Chrome browser (rather than my audio driver).  I went to Advanced Settings in Chrome and elected to return to default settings.  All fixed.
