Ideapad 320 speakers very quiet

Purchased a new Ideapad 320 direct from Lenovo. The speakers are very quiet even at max volume. I've been through all the settings and reinstalled the drivers. The speaker on my cell phone is much louder than this computer. Any suggestions?

Re: Ideapad 320 speakers very quiet

Hi NedShred,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Ensure that the speakers at the botton is not the fault or being obstructed. Try to connect an external speaker or headphone to compare.

Using Lenovo Vantage, you may be able to run update on needed tools like drivers and apps specially if changing settings of the dolby audio manager have the same issue on the volume.

You may call tech support or the store if there is possibilities of hardware issue.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: Ideapad 320 speakers very quiet

Thanks for the reply. The speakers are not obstructed, volume is very quiet even when holding laptop in the air. Headphones or external speakers are what I'm using, and the only way to hear music/videos over other sounds like... the refrigerator, or a pot of boiling water for example. Seriously, these speakers are weak. With external speakers plugged in, sound is just what I would expect, so I doubt it's a driver issue. This problem was apparent from the moment I first used the laptop, fresh out of the box. Just wanted to see if this was a known issue with this machine.

The Dolby Audio "Manager" doesn't have any real settings one might change... just an equalizer and volume leveler. These have no effect on this problem.

I did download Lenovo Vantage, but I'd already installed any updates. Not sure I see the advantage of this app.

To be clear, the speakers do work, just very quiet.  I've read where other folks have had this problem with other lenovo laptops but not with the Ideapad 320.

Re: Ideapad 320 speakers very quiet

Hi NedShred,

Greetings.

Like what you may have suspected, since this is a new system with all drivers and apps already updated by Vantage then it would be best to call in technical support or the store.

This is not a usual issue as you may notice not much audio post with the model here in our community and may just be an isolated case. Inform the tech team that external speakers works as expected along with the updates done so they would be able to offer you options.

Regards

Re: Ideapad 320 speakers very quiet

Spoke with Lenovo Support. They weren't helpful and told me the speakers are working normally. Easy for them to say from the other end of a phone call. Apparently, the support guy thinks it's fine that the one tiny speaker in my phone is much louder than the two speakers in this laptop.

The only "option" Lenovo Support offered was to use external speakers and headphones, which I think is an unacceptable answer. I agree that since I'm not finding other posts about this issue here, it is probably an isolated case. Too bad the Lenovo support folks weren't willing to acknowledge it as a problem.

Perhaps the speakers just really suck...?

Re: Ideapad 320 speakers very quiet

Hi NedShred,

I do not have the chance to audibly hear the volume for comparison but if you think on your end and people with thinks it very low then you can check it with the store or hopefully other owners of the same model.

Sound can be subjective as technicians as not the same but I would rather that you call them back specially if we have another laptop to compare with. And yes, it has two of them and reviews on the model supplements that audio is ok in terms of loudness.

Re: Ideapad 320 speakers very quiet

So I wrote a review in the Lenovo store and got a very fast reply with a link to an updated driver. Unfortunately the driver made no difference. I think the problem is that the speakers on this machine are just total crap.

Sitting in a quiet room with the volume at full throttle, I have to chew quietly to hear dialogue in a tv show. This is wrong and I won't be buying any Lenovo products again.

Re: Ideapad 320 speakers very quiet

Hi NedShred,

Greetings.

I hope you already called back technical support as advised.

You can also refer them to this discussion we have here on our community for reference.

Once the machine is sent to the depot, they would be able to investigate more on the audio issue and apply needed fix if problems found or is audio standards fall behind what is intended.

Regards

Re: Ideapad 320 speakers very quiet

Hi

I’m having the same problem, purchased new laptop 320s with harman audio system which cost me £700. Speakers are very quite on full volume, my 7 years old laptop or mobile phone is louder. Is there anything what can be done ( all ready try new drivers and change settings) or this is just very cheap crap speakers. Thanks
