Ideapad 330-ARR max Ram on soldered laptop

Hello. Before buying the Ideapad 330-ARR I want to know what is the max ram on the one with 4 gb soldered ram.

The version I want to buy have 4 gb ram soldered only. Can I upgrade to

- 12 gb (4 soldered + 8 on the free slot)

- 16 gb ( 16 on the free slot, the soldered is disable)

- 20 gb ( 4 soldered + 16 on the free slot)

Bonus question:

Is dual channel working if I buy more than 4 gb ram one the free slot ? Like if I have 8 gb will I have (4+4) dual channel ram + 4 normal ram or 0 dual channel + 12 normal ram ?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Ideapad 330-ARR max Ram on soldered laptop

Regarding your question, from PSREF we can read that:

15ARR:
16GB max / 2400MHz DDR4, dual-channel capable,
optional 4GB memory soldered to systemboard,
one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket

Personally, it would be strange for me, if BIOS would disable soldered module, but as I haven't tested it, so can't say for sure.

Yes, it should work with 4+4, 4+8 and even 4+16 configurations, if modules are compatible with each other - meaning, that they have the same standard, frequency, timmings and have compatible ranks with motherboard. There are no 12GB RAM modules on the market. Capacity increases in power of 2, meaning 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 etc. There are no "in the middle" modules.

Re: Ideapad 330-ARR max Ram on soldered laptop

Thanks for your answers. I need to be sure about the 16 gb max because it is required in my new school. Is there anyone from lenovo or someone who have this computer that can confirm this to me ?

For the dual channel thats a good news, but how can i know the specification of the soldered ram ? What do you mean by the same standard ( ddr4, ddr3,... ?), compatible ranks ?

Yeah I know there is no 12 gb ram I was meaning 4+8 ram working normally not working in dual channel even in part. But I think I was unclear.

Anyway thanks for you reply.

I have checked Hardware Maintenance Manual for IdeaPad 330. Following 16GB RAM modules are supported:

- 16GB DDR4 M471A2K43CB1-CTD, FRU: SM30N76489N.

- 16GB DDR4 HMA82GS6CJR8N-VKN0, FRU: SM30K25312N.

- 16GB DDR4 MTA16ATF2G64HZ-2G6E1, FRU: SM30N76494N.

- 16GB DDR4 RMSA3300ME78HBF-2666, FRU: SM30N76499N.

So 16GB RAM is supported for sure. If you buy one of these modules, they'll be compatible for sure.
