Nope, 15 W like before and same stupid fan / temperature regulation.

Same here. Installed latest UEFI upd (44).
Doom runs below 30 fps on vega 8, that's really crappy work from BIOS|EFI devs. Will probably return to store and buy acer one.

Re: Ideapad 330 Ryzen 5 2500u underperforming

I'm having exactly the same problems with the ideapad 330s with Ryzen 2500u.

Did anyone find a solution to this?  If not, I also will be returning it to the store.

Re: Ideapad 330 Ryzen 5 2500u underperforming

Hi everyone,

I've just seen this throttling problem after buying my lenovo ideapad 330 this week-end and I'm also waiting for a bios update,

Could you tell me if a tablet cooling fan may solves the throttling problem? I will use this ideapad 330 for office, internet and youtube videos. Will I encounter this throttling problem?

Thanks !

A cooling pad is always recommended, specially during summer, but will not solve the throttling on this model because it is completely unreleated to the temperatures. Check this post for more informations:

Ok thanks I understand. Now I'm waiting for an official (lenovo) or an unofficial solution for the bios update of my 330 15 ARR, I follow very often this post on reddit :

Re: Ideapad 330 Ryzen 5 2500u underperforming

RealOS.png

Finally got my 330-15ARR work like it should. 300+ FPS in minecraft underground. 160+ above.

At the same scene (im using same MultiMC instance) sh!tdows (W10) puts twice as less FPS. (~162 cave/70 above)

Modded (stoneblock) isn't even playable on W10 with 1 (ONE) FPS and doesnt even load most of the time.

In linux it never falls lower than 70+ FPS

Current setup: {FPS in glxgears with vblank 0}

Spoiler
I know that glxgears is not a valid benchmark. I just put it for reference.
  • Got Xubuntu 18.04.1
  • Modified EFI grub cfg to boot (nomodeset)
  • booted live {1-2k}
  • Installed [using internet on usb stick with some MT7601U]
  • Booted changing to nomodeset+idle=nomwait in grub preload {1-2k}
  • updated
  • Installed lastest kernel [4.19.6 atm]
  • Modified EFI grub cfg of installed os to boot (idle=nomwait)
  • reboot {6-7k}
  • Installed DKMS module for wifi drivers
  • reboot {6-7k}
  • Added oibaf's ppa and updated
  • reboot {9-10k}
  • (at this moment system experienced some inconsistent bootup)
  • updated firmware bins for raven ridge (and whole lotta of amdgpu's fw)
  • reboot

using system now, boots every time {9-10k}

Now I'm going to compile kernel to make touchpad work

Spoiler
No way, im too lazy. And it should be presumably fixed in next couple of releases anyway.

So, poor performance seems to be a driver problem after all.
