Ideapad 520s usb 3.0 works as 2.0

I bought new Ideapad 520s, but I have issues with usb devices.

I have two sandisk usb devices, both ultra 3.0 speed.

Write speed does not exceed 21/22 mb/s: there seems to be a limit in write speed. I have read that's a common problem, because maybe host controller extensible windows drivers do not work properly. Intel has not released specific drivers. What can I do?

- Ideapad 520s-14ikb, i5-7200, ram 4bg, ssd samsung 256 gb

- I updated bios to the last 1.05 version

- I tryed to unistall and reinstall controller and hub driver in win 10 devices management

- usb sandisk devices are new and write speed is up to 150 mb/sec

Re: Ideapad 520s usb 3.0 works as 2.0

Hello Citr55

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Has the unit had any recent changes, something like hardware, recent windows update?

Try to download the Chipset drivers for the unit from the support page.

Make sure to reboot after an update on the unit.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: Ideapad 520s usb 3.0 works as 2.0

no hardware updates.

i updated windows to Pro version 1703.

Like you told me, I updated chipset drivers, but nothing has changed.

I think it's a windows problem, but it's quite annoying because I can't use usb 3.0 port.

Any ideas?

Re: Ideapad 520s usb 3.0 works as 2.0

Hmm, In that case, has this been happening before the update?

If not, I would recommend that you revert back to the older version of Windows, and see if the issue will persists, if not,

then it will likely indicate that the unit is yet to be compatible with the latest udpate completely.

Also, Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.

(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal

If that does not work, then I would recommend you to attempt a factory reset, this should clear out any software issues.

Note: Please back up all your data as running this reset will delete any data on your machine

1. Turn the machine off and press the recovery button which is located usually next to the power button. If you have a desktop machine you will need to power the machine back on and keep tapping the F2 key.
2. Use the arrow keys and press enter on system recovery. ( Desktop users can skip this)
3. Select “restore from the initial backup” and then “Next”.
4. Click “start” and accept the warning messages.
Length of time can vary depending on the speed of the machine.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: Ideapad 520s usb 3.0 works as 2.0

I have just formatted two times to factory settings but the problem persists.

this is a laptop with internal battery.

Why do I have to unplug battery? what's the link between battery and driver issues?

I think it depends on windows drivers, because intel did not release specific drivers for host intel extensible controller.

I want to avoid to open back cover and unplug battery, but if you confirm that this procedure could help to resolve the problem, I'll do it!

It's their scripted answer, without even acknowledging the product you have.

Lenovo have issues.
