Ideapad 710S battery charge indicator issue

2016-05-09, 12:05 PM

Just received my new notebook and am extremely happy with it, execept for the battery indicator. The effective charge reamining, fluctuates by a wide margin, suddenly jumping from 4 hours remaining - to 3 hours - to 6 hours in a matter of minutes! The PC was left in idle state with no processing happening whatsoever. at 100% charge it shows 5 hours 6 mts of remaining time, as the charge drops to 97% after 5 mins of idle, the remaining time changes to 2 hrs 34 mins and at 94% charge after another 5 mins, it shows 7 hr 20 mins of remianing time!

I called Lenovo service and after one hour of trying this and and that, they offered to replace the PC with a comment that battery takes 1 week to settle down and stabilise! I find that a bit out of the ordinary.

My config is 710S, i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Windows 10, with Lenovo optimiser loaded. (The battery gauge reset, suggested by service is missing in this version - the service staff themselves could not find it).

Is anyone else having similar issues?

it will take a week or so of use to get used to all the programs and there power usages, as different programs are going to affect the rate of the power draw, it will take a while to monitor this and calulate the usage.

for now use it normally and check after a few days and see if it has improved.

have a look here after a few days if it has not improved

Hi Caveman31,

On the issue again - the main problem I am facing is not with battery calibration now, which has stabilised - the probelm is with the amount of usable PC time; while the % charge left, is going down in a predictable manner, the amount of usable time left, is completely unpredictable and showing a random hi-low number.

Any suggestion?

i have this with a yoga i have i think it might depend what it was doing at the time it refreshes it's self

i.e

if you were at desktop it will be high say 100% 8 hours left

if you were browsing say 100% 6.5 hours left

if you were watching a video say 100% 4 hours left

if you were playing a game say 100% 2 hours left

if you are doing a combo of these things when it refreshes it will predict that you are going to keep doing that combo, until it refreshes and recalculates the time remaining

hope that helps

Thx dave

Thanks Caveman31. You are right about the activity linked power consumption, however, inthis case it was left at idle with just the screen on. I wish I could post some jpg screen shots but cant seem find a way to do that on the forum!

Re: Ideapad 710S battery charge indicator issue

Hi, this is not related to your battery issue, but I have a question regarding the display. The specification says that the Ideapad 710s has an Anti Glare display, so I would like to know if the display is matte or at least with matte coating. I asked the chat representatives, but they told me the display is glossy. The thing is that I don't believe them :-) I am looking for matte display and I am pretty sure this one is matte however since it is not sold in stores I cannot check myself, hence this off topic answer.

Thank you!
