I have an ideapad 710S under 6 months old. Last night I used it on battery, shut it down well before battery was exhausted, all fine.
This morning, on booting it up on mains power, it boots up but is stuck on what I call the 'pretty screen' - the picture of lakes. It won't bring up the box to enter my user id and password. Control alt delete doesn't do anything, nor does F12. I'm the only user, it hasn't been dropped, I don't use USB sticks or any other peripherals apart from a mouse. I haven't installed any software recently.
Pressing the on/off button only seems to send it into sleep mode as when I turn it off and on again all I get is the pretty picture of the lake (which comes up almost instantaneously) and I'm stuck on that screen.

Welcome to the Community Forums.
You can try to unplug the charger and press and hold down the power button for 12 seconds.
Try to turn it on using the novo button (item 5 page 5 of the users manual). This should show a different screen offering BIOS access. Choose it and F9 to load defaults then F10 to save (in some models FN are used with F9 and F10).
Check if this would proceed loading Windows.
Else, turn the laptop on then press down to power off. Turn back on and off 2-3 times to force the advance repair option to appear. Among the advance repair option is system restore that you can try, jumping back to a previous working date.
Update us how things go.
