Hi! I bought the Ideapad 720S-14IKB about two weeks ago, and I am really really happy about it. The only thing that is bothering me, is that the fans on this machine cycle a lot. Like, for a while they make basically no noise, until they suddenly ramp up to the max for a short period before they go back to being practically silent. They're not even that loud in general, it's just that they are pulsating a lot, and that makes the noise so much more noticeable. I really would like to see a BIOS update or driver update or something that makes the fan cycling a bit smoother. Is there any chance of this actually happening in the near future?

I understood there was a bios update that fixed this? I have one arriving on Monday from the factory in China, I wonder if the bios will be the updated one. Can anyone tell me the version I should so on the 720s 14" that is the updated version?

I appreciate the possible solution, improv11, but the loudness isn't so much of a problem as the whole pulsation-tendency is.
Also, hi_there, I have already updated to the newest BIOS-version, and that hasn't done anything when it comes to the fans pulsating/ramping up every time there is a tiny workload.

I have the 81BD model and I have the same issue too. The fan goes from 0 to 100 everytime is throttles during moderate load. The sound is also very high pitched. I've updated the BIOS to the latest version, but there is no power management options. I really love this laptop, but there is no way I can bring this to class without turning heads.

Same here. Just bought it recently. I have the i7 8th gen and the fan noise/pulsating is very irritating, specially in a quite environment. Also, the fan is on for no reason sometimes, just casual web browisng and still running, even after the BIOS update! NOT GOOD LENOVO!
I also tried the 8th gen i5 model and it was a lil better, fan went on only during load but the pulsation and noise was still relevant. Must be something to do with the 8th gen CPUs optimization with BIOS?
Otherwise, it is a pretty solid laptop. Hopefully Lenovo will address this issue quickly.

I just bought the Ideapad 720S-14IKBR (8th gen i7) and have the same problem.
Most everything about this notebook is great (maybe besides the weight as compared to other options) but the fan ramping up and down is really annoying. This problem also turns up in Linux.
I really hope that Lenovo will fix it via a BIOS update in the near future.

For anyone encountering the same issue, check improv11's reply. The information in the link provided works. The fans are silent now. I still hope Lenovo provided a proper fix though.

Thanks for the reply, but forcing an average user to edit registry entries is a dirty solution It might be a quick fix, but I'm also looking forward to a proper BIOS update.
