Ideapad 720S-15IKB extra SSD specification

Hello,

I would like to add an additional M.2 SSD to this laptop.  Is an M.2 2280 SSD compatible?  After installing one it is not recognized in AHCI configuration.  Are only nvme SSD drives compatible?

Re: Ideapad 720S-15IKB extra SSD specification

Hi, would like to +1 to this question as well, regarding the 720S 15IKB Model. Currently SSD M.2 Sata interface have been running cheap and I'm planning to get one for additional data storage. Are they compaitable with 720S Model?

Re: Ideapad 720S-15IKB extra SSD specification

Wow this thread is still around.  Anyway I ended up buying an SSD M.2 from newegg and it wasn't recognized by the laptop.  I returned it and bought a somewhat cheap nvme drive from microcenter.  Search for "Inland Professional 512GB 3D NAND M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe Gen 3 x2 Internal Solid State Drive (512G)" on their website.  That worked fine in the 720S 15IKB, and most likely any NVMe drive will work as well.  Hope this helps.  I also remember having to steal a screw from inside the laptop to secure the new drive since it didn't come with one.

Thanks for this confirmation mate. I was about to get some WD Blue M.2 SSD 1TB for the 720S.

Good to know its not compaitable, so no money is wasted. Thank you
