Ideapad Flex 2 14D DIMM SLOTS

2014-09-02, 13:00 PM

Hi everyone,

Just got my Flex 2 14D with the parcel post, and of course, first thing i did was remove the backpanel to take a peek inside. And to my frustration, i only found ONE ram slot there! In all the specifications I read, both on the Lenovo product page, the hardware maintenance manual, webshop specs, there was spoken of TWO slots! This is problematic for me, since I can't upgrade the installed 4 GB to 8 without buying a new module :(

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/flex-series/flex-2-14d-notebook-lenovo/documents/PD100014?tabName=ProductParts

I have some spare 4 GBs left,  but no 8 GB, so Lenovo is forcing me to do a pricy upgrade which I shouldn't have to do if you sticked to their OWN technical specifications.. Is there any way I can get Lenovo so far that they'll compensate me for that? After all, their information is just wrong, and the two ram slots were a clear advantage for me in buying this thing.

I got the top config:

- AMD A8 6410

- 500 GB Hybrid drive

- 4 GB DDR3 1600

- AMD SUN PRO (R5 M230 graphics)

- 1366x768

- Win 8.1

Cost me 440 Euros..

I believe there is a second DIMM under the keyboard. Have you looked at the Hardware Maintenance Manual?

Edit: I'm a slow reader. I know the Flex2 has 2 DIMM. I'm not as familiar with the AMD model though.

Well, the manual also says there are two, but I really can't find the second one.

Well, hi folks.

I have the same problem. I did remove the mainboard and there is no second slot to be found. Under the Keyboard there is nothing... The only location left would be the Display Housing... and that would be kind of weird... Even CPU-Z tells me about an second slot for RAM...

Its kind of confusing....

So if there is anyone, having new informtions: I would be thankful.

Kind regards, Alex.

I'm having the same problem. I looked at the hardware maintenance manual before buying my 15D to make sure I could use the DIMM from my old notebook but it seems the second DIMM slot is just missing. Nothing underneath the keyboard, not next to the first DIMM slot(where it's supposed to be). Anywhere else wouldn't make sense. Those DIMMS should be close to the CPU...

I couldn't find anything else on the internet and I'm not sure why Lenovo is giving out maintenance manuals that apparently don't even work with the hardware they sell. This is just frustrating...

I have done some poking around and while the maintenance manual does appear to indicate 2 sticks of memory, that is the only place where it does so. I checked on the for sale listing and it only says 4 or 8 GB in a system depending on which system you purchase. Other than the Maintenance manual can you point me to another place where it shows 2 sticks of memory?

I'm not sure but I thought it said so on the support page under specs.

But it seems there is just no second slot. I've run 'dmidecode -t memory' and it shows a second bank without a bank locator, which, as far as I understand, means, the chipset has all the wiring for a second bank but it's not present in hardware...?

I have no idea about dmidecode -t memory, it is not something I have used. But I looked at the description and all it says is up to 8GB of memory available. I wish I had better news for you.
