Ideapad L340 Gaming 15IRH Gaming - Is it possible to fit both PCI-E SSD and a HDD?

So what I'm wondering is if both the PCI-E SSD that came with the pc, AND another 2,5 inch SSD or HDD can fit simultaneously.

I see other forum posts that are quite similar - about people not finding the cables - but it wasnt clear to me whether they were switching to the 2,5 inch or keeping both.

I'm aware I would need the bracket and cable, and the max drive height is 7mm.

I'm just unsure about whether they share connectors or not - maybe Lenovo would do this to force people to buy a more expensive laptop?

Appreciate any feedback, cheers.

Hi RuneN

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can share the machine number / MTM ( ex. 81LK0010AX) to check on your machine in details from the sticker.

With same L340 15IRH models, several variants like 81LK0011AX , 81LK0014RU and other have both M.2 2242 PCIe 3.0x2 NVMe + 1TB HDD 5400rpm 2.5" offered. As you noticed, other machines that was not purchased with the HDD may not have the bracket and cable connectors depending on the region.

Soon as you have updated us, then we would be able to check further on your specific variant.

Regards

Hi RuneN,

For the 81LK002GMX, you systemboard PN 5B20S42303 as shown below. Yellow box would be for your current m.2 CPIe SSD. Red for the HDD cable connector and the blue for adding SATA SSD/HDD 2.5 drive.

You have the HDD bracket but would need to get the HDD connector cable (PN 5C10S29927 HDD Cable L 81LK). Here is the hardware manual for the steps.

Regards

Thanks so much, I really appreciate the thorough replies.

Just a small note - you wrote I already have the HDD bracket but I checked now and it seems to not be included.

Hi RuneN,

Using the MTM here shows the hdd bracket PN 5B40S21897.

Not sure if your specific serial number would show otherwise but it may depend regionally or by point of sale.
