LENOVO IDEAPAD 320-15IKBRN RAM Upgrade

2018-08-06, 8:39 AM

Hello!

I bought LENOVO IDEAPAD 320-15IKBRN 81BG005APH  lately.

I was wondering if one can upgrade the RAM with 16GB card?
I cannot seem to find posts specific to the model regarding RAM upgrades and most cites that 320-15IKB can only be upgraded to 16GB MAX. Manual also cites this, but it only list up to 7th gen processors. But Kingston and Crucial suggests 20GB max upgrades and now, I am confused.

I would like to upgrade, but I am afraid I might go overboard and buy a 16GB card incompatible with my system.

Hope you can help.

Thank you!

You have 0, 4GB or 8GB soldered memory and 1 memory socket. 0 soldered is rare config.

If 0      soldered... add 16GB stick for 16GB total.

If 4GB soldered... add 16GB stick for 20GB total.

If 8GB soldered... add 8GB stick for 16GB total.

Hi HyperBacon,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

In addition, checking further on the systemboard shows that you have a soldered 4GB ram with an empty slot to add 8GB DDR4 thus offering max 12 GB (onboard 4GB + 8 GB potential upgrade).

Your machine does have I78550U CPU and it may be that the manual is outdated (March2017 first edition). System board part number 5B20P99210 MBL81BJI78550UV2GD4GWIN:

Proposed 12 GB total is an OEM recommendation so 20GB is not tested for the machine as third party resellers may offer. Disclaimers from them would still say to go for the manufacturer recommendation.

I hope this helps.

Regards
