My son has a Lenovo Flex 5. I recently bought him his first laptop lock since he is about to go away for his first year of college. The lock would not secure itself in the laptop's slot. We tried it on two other laptops in the house, an HP and a Toshiba, and it the lock worked fine.
It's a Bodyguard Notebook Laptop Combination Lock Security Cable. The disclaimer does say the following models can't be used: Lenovo】U41 / U31 / M41 / S41 / K41 / Ideapad series of products / Flex3 series of products.
The disclaimer does not specifically mention Flex5, but should I assume it's simply incompatible, and not defective? Which laptop lock should I purchase that will work properly?

Welcome to the Community Forums.
Checking with the security slot for the Flex 5 (15 and 15'') on its right side here (under system location), what it has is the Mini Security Lock slot feature which the Bodyguard Notebook Laptop Combination Lock Security Cable may do not support.
You can check for a Kensington Mini Security Slot instead but to make sure that you have the right fit, check with the sales team of Kensington for model compatibility or better yet actual fitting on the store if available near your place.
Hope this help.
