I have a Lenovo 320- 15IKB that I am curious if its capable of upgrading storage via M.2. I know that there are only some variants for Lenovo 320 that are capable of having this storage. I verified that this specific model Lenovo 320-15IKB 81BG005BPH does have an m.2 slot, but is this for SATA or NVME PCIE?

The M.2 slot is PCIe. Lenovo's parts list for the model 81BG lists PCIe drives.
Hope that helps.

In addition, checking with the hardware manual, SSD interface is SATA offered with the 2.5 SATA storage. On the parts lookup page shows optional m.2 PCIe like PN 01FR508 Storage SSD S265 PCIe 128G along with other substitutes.
