Lenovo Edge 15 here, keyboard suddenly stopped working

Hello, I was playing a Steam game last night and all of a sudden without warning the keyboard suddenly stops working.

At first I thought it was the game so I randomly clicked around and nothing worked. I was somehow able to exit the game but the keyboard has stopped working completely.

Meaning the Capslock light doesn't turn on, the numlock light doens't turn on either. I have a Windows 8.1 just to let you know.

I have tried the following.

1. Going into control panel and turning off the filter keys and toggle keys. Didn't work.

2. Going into Device Manager and uninstalling the keyboard and re-installing. Didn't work.

3. Went into Registry and messed with the UpperFiler like they told me. Didn't work.

The only thing left is a factory reset then??

I had to buy a USB keyboard and it's pretty annoying.

I was wondering if I accidentally locked the keyboard?? I don't know what else is there.

Are there any other solutions? Please let me know. Thanks.

Re: Lenovo Edge 15 here, keyboard suddenly stopped working

Hi BassFan ,

Welcome to the Community.

Well you have done the WIndows troubleshooting pretty well , both on registry and sticky keys.  External keyboard working , and may also be working with windows onscreen keyboard too.

I would hold up the factory reset for now, knowing that it would erase everything n your harddrive and that you would need to reinstall and download all your applications and games again.

Before you decide on that , best to check if that keyboard is physically broken or not.

Turn off the pc , use Novo button (page 7 of your manual ) to turn on ,
Try going to the BIOS and see if the arrow keys would work , time and date to test the number keys , security password for the letters ( just for testing, don't save password).

Just press the power button to turn off , and leave the BIOS or exit without saving on Exit tab .

If internal keyboard keys works on the BIOS then you can try system restore or even factory reset,

Loading BIOS Default can also refresh the settings . (exit tab choices or F9 load defaults / F10 to save and exit)

Your hardware manual can show step to reseat  keyboard if you a tech but if you have an active warrantythen best to use it .

Else check your warranty and call in tech support for repair.

Hope every goes well . Have us updated here too so that we can share it among the community.
