Lenovo Flex 3 1470 Keystokes Not Registering

Hi,

I have a problem with my Lenovo Flex 3 keyboard in which several keys (1-4, 7-0, PgUp, PgDn, PrtSc, F10-F12) have trouble registering or do not register at all. This makes the laptop very inconvenient to use when programming or typing notes.

Attempts to Fix:

-Setting the keyboard's repeat delay to the shortest = No results.

-Reinstalling the keyboard driver = No results

-Holding the broken key at the very bottom left corner = Rarely fixes

-Flipping my computer and shaking it to remove any particles inside the keys = No results

-Having only English (United States) language pack and US keyboard  = No results

-Reinstalled Windows = Temporarily fix

-Removing the battery, holding the power button for a minute, and reconnecting the battery = Temporarily fix

Diagnostic Tests:

-The on screen keyboard works

-External keyboards connected via USB works

Additional Information:

-Operating System is Windows 10

-Machine Type: 80JK

-All drivers are updated (Except for ACPI - Microsoft driver used)

-BIOS Version/Date Lenovo BDCN71WW, 8/03/16

-The faulty keys would sometimes work if the touchpad was touched

-When the faulty keys did work, if the touchpad was touched, the keys would sometimes have difficulty registering

- I have read the post "ideapad 700 15ISK - Keyboard missing keystrokes"

Since my laptop uses an internal battery, it is very inconvenient and time consuming to to reconnect the battery. Is there a fix for my laptop? I know for a fact that the Ideapad 700 15ISK latest BIOS update fixed their problem.

Re: Lenovo Flex 3 1470 Keystokes Not Registering

Hello RandomStudent

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

If this keeps on happening after a reset, this will indicate a hardware fault unfortunately, likely on the motherboard, or a connection on there.

I would recommend that you get in touch with your local Lenovo support line for a possible repair, Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: Lenovo Flex 3 1470 Keystokes Not Registering

Unfortunately, due to my warranty being expired, I don't think that I can get a repair without having to pay a fee. However, since you suggested that my keyboard problem was due to a faulty connection on the motherboard, I decided to take my laptop apart.

Inside the laptop, I saw how the keyboard ribbon connector was pressed inbetween the touchpad and the battery. I thought that maybe that was the reason why if I touched the touchpad the affected keys would stop/start working again. Thus, I decided to move the ribbon connector to the top of the battery where it has more breathing room. Then I flattened out the crease that was on the ribbon connector and gently bent other parts of the connector so I could put the backcover bave on. I also reassembled everything that was connected on the motherboard and did the power reset.

It has been a week since and my keyboard is functioning perfectly. I have always thought that my keyboard problem was the same one as the Ideapad 700, but clearly I was wrong. The symptoms were quite simillar though. I will be back again in around a month to confirm if the problem has been completely fixed. Thank you so much for your response!

Re: Lenovo Flex 3 1470 Keystokes Not Registering

Great stuff, thank you for the update.

Sorry to hear about the warranty, but I`m glad you were able to open up the unit and dissect the problem yourself.

I was hoping it wouldn`t be more than a troubled connection on there.

Hoping the problem is gone for good.
