Lenovo Flex 3 1480, new battery, plugged in & says charging but doesn't

I have a Lenovo Flex 3 1480 with Intel I7.  I was getting a message that says "plugged in charging" but the battery charge was staying at 60% and not increasing. Lenovo techs said the battery must be bad so I ordered and installed a new, Lenovo brand battery.  I get the same condition... placing the cursor over the battery symbol gives a status message of "40% available, plugged in, charging" but the battery charge never increases, even after shutting off the computer down and leaving it plugged in overnight. The laptop was a year old and therefore out of warranty last November, 2016. HELP!

Re: Lenovo Flex 3 1480, new battery, plugged in & says charging but doesn't

I just followed some Lenovo suggestions to disconnect the battery and depres the start button for 30 seconds. Then I disconnected the power input cable and tested the continuity of all 4 wires... all ok. I tested the end of the charger cable that plugs into the computer and verified 20vdc.. seems fine. Put it all back together and turned it onand no change. Battery at 39%, plugged in, charging but the new battery isn't going higher than the 39%... stuck there even the other machine shut down for hours. Lenovo software says battery is fine and is charging... obviously BS. Not sure what else to do.

Re: Lenovo Flex 3 1480, new battery, plugged in & says charging but doesn't

Hello danmancalif

Thank you for using the Lenoo fourm

In this instance i have 2 things you can try that will help solve this issue. First is a batter gauge reset.  Note: make sure the AC adapter is plugged in when performing a gauge reset.

1.        Go to Power Manager
2.        Battery tab
3.        Battery Maintenance.
4.        Click "Perform Reset"

If this does not work try the next step:-

Second the issue you are experiencing could potentially be related to peice of software installed on the unit called Lenovo energy management.  Within this software there is an option to only partially charge the units battery which although it doesn't give you a full charge it will prolong the lifespan of the battery.

1.  Please search under “settings” for “energy” and click “Change Battery settings”

2.  Then click “change plan settings” and then “change advanced power settings”

3. Then click the tab for “Lenovo energy management” and then “Enable Lenovo energy management”

4. Under Battery the settings from “Optimized Battery Health” as shown below to “Maximum Battery Life”

Hope this help you and let us know how you get on
