Lenovo Flex 3 - Stuck in sleep mode

Has anyone had any issues with their Flex 3 laptop getting stuck in sleep mode?  I've called Lenovo support twice about this issue.  The problem was not fixed at all on the first attempt.  After the second attempt....I thought they fixed the issue; however, it still happens but less frequently.  Just purchased this laptop in February 2016 and I'm about to throw it in the trash!

Welcome to the Forums Jcf! 

 

It sounds like the GPU is failing to wake. Are you up-to-date with your Intel drivers? First check Lenovo's latest, and if that doesn't work, try the Intel drivers using the Intel Update Utility:

To Get the correct Graphics Driver from Intel Support:

 

1. Right-click mouse on screen background and select Graphic Properties to bring up Intel HD Graphics Control Panel.


2. Click on Options and Support. Then on the left-hand panel click on Support.

3. Click on Download latest Intel Graphics Driver.

4. On the Welcome to Support page, Click on Download Drivers and Software.

5. Click on automatically update your drivers. This will download Intel's Update Utility.

6. After downloading the Utility, run it to scan your PC and it will determine which drivers have new versions available.  You then have the option of downloading the new drivers and installing them. Installing the new Graphics driver will solve the "Unable to wake from Sleep Problem."

What do you mean by "first check Lenovo's latest"?  I attempted to follow the other steps you suggested by checking for updated Intel drivers but got this message:

 

A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer.  The Intel Drive Update Utility is not able to update the driver.  Installing generic Intel driver instead of customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues.  Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.

 

When I called Lenovo support....I'm pretty sure that's how they tried solving my issue was installing some sort of updated graphics driver.  Obviously, it didn't work because I'm still having issues.

We are sorry to hear that your issue has not yet been fixed.

 

I mean “Lenovo’s latest” refers to latest graphics driver which Lenovo has released.

 

Any chance you could post a few lines from the event viewer? I'd like to see if it's a BIOS wake issue or a system driver issue.

Hey, I had this problem with my Flex 3 also when I first got it. Go to Lenovo support page for your model and download the BIOS update. Run that and let it do its thing, it should restart, then test sleep mode.

When I attempt to install the BIOS update, it tells me that it's for other types of Lenovo products (yoga, ideapad, etc.). And asks if i'm sure I want to install it. Is there one specific to the flex 3?

To lsparling - I noticed the same thing with that warning message and the Flex 3 wasn't mentioned.  However, did you happen to see a 'readme.txt' file listed also.  If you open that file....it describes the BIOS update and it does include the Flex 3 as one of the laptops that the update covers.  So I downloaded and ran the update and it's been working ever since.  Hope this helps.
