Lenovo IdeaPad 320-15ABR Constant Freezing

I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad 320-15ABR two or three months ago from a Best Buy in the area, and recently I've been having issues where the computer will just freeze. Basically what happens is that I will be doing something, like watching a video or playing some game, and then after a while the computer will freeze, forcing me to shut down the computer manually by holding down the power button for a few seconds, which I know is not good for the computer. Recently, I've also had issues with the computer even freezing after a couple hours of being idle. I got this laptop so I could do work on my college assignments and also be able to get some gaming capability out of it as well, as it's better than the laptop I had initially, and I would like to get this figured out. Any help would be really appreciated.

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad 320-15ABR Constant Freezing

Hello JCF97

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Try running an LSC scan, see if this is able to find anything for you:

1. Please click on the following link
2. Under the section ‘Download’ select the relevant Hyperlink dependant on whether your Lenovo is running Windows 7/8/8.1 32 bit or 64 bit.(Will work on Win10)
3. When prompted, select save and browse to a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files.
4. Navigate to the folder where you saved the installation file, lscsetup_x86_26001.exe.
5. Double-click the installation file icon to start the installation.
6. Follow the onscreen instructions via the installation wizard that will install Lenovo Solution Centre on your system.
7. Once installed you will have a ‘Lenovo Solution Centre’ icon on your desktop please click to open this.
8. Once solution center is opened please select ‘Checkup’ then ‘Hardware Scan’ and ‘Full Scan’
9. This will take up to 20 minutes, see if this can find any errors.

Sounds like it could be a trouble with the storage drive in the unit.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad 320-15ABR Constant Freezing

I did it and sure enough, I ran into a yellow exclamation circle when it got to the SMART full test. To make sure that was the issue I redid it with just the hard drive and I got the same circle for the last SMART test, but it still said it passed for some reason. I forgot to document the last test, but I did get the code for the hard drive only test. It's W1NKN7ASR-46UMJC.

Edit: A few minutes ago it just happened again. Wasn't doing a test, I was just browsing the web after a restart. What should I do? Should I just send it in to Lenovo for repair, as my warranty has 300 some days left on it yet? Or are hard drives out of the spectrum for repair/replacement?

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad 320-15ABR Constant Freezing

It`s as I suspected then, its definitely possible that there will be a problem with the hard drive.

In order to confirm if it is a hardware problem, you could perform a factory reset, if the problem persists after this reset, then it will more than likely be a hardware problem with the unit.

Note: Please back up all your data as running this reset will delete any data on your machine

1. Turn the machine off and press the recovery button which is located usually next to the power button. On a desktop machine you will need to power the machine back on and keep tapping the F2 key.
2. Use the arrow keys and press enter on system recovery. ( Desktop users can skip this)
3. Select “restore from the initial backup” and then “Next”.
4. Click “start” and accept the warning messages.
Length of time can vary depending on the speed of the machine.

If that fails to help with the problem, then yes, your best option would be to get in touch with your local Lenovo support line and take advantage of the warranty for the unit for a possible service.

Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad 320-15ABR Constant Freezing

So after working with my dad to replace the hard drive, it seems we're still having the same issue. I can't think of anything else to do. This is a frustrating thing because I was so happy to get this laptop, and now it's just driving me nuts.

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad 320-15ABR Constant Freezing

I have the same problem with my Ideapad 320S-14IKB (Type 81BN). Random freezes that require a hard power-off. In my case the hardware scan revealed nothing. The computer has been "repaired" twice already by Lenovo and the problem is still occuring. This is extremely disruptive to my work and I'm very frustrated.

Hello Everyone,

Try to Roll back the AMD I2C Controller driver to the 2017 version. It worked for me

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad 320-15ABR Constant Freezing

My computer still has the freezing issue. As far as I can tell, Lenovo don't have a clue what the issue is and how to fix it. My laptop has had three repairs already. In the latest repair the report states that the engineers just ran a standard diagnostic test that I could have run myself and sent it back to me. But despite this, Lenovo are asking me to send it in for a FOURTH repair. It's been six months now that I haven't had a working machine. I simply cannot believe how bad Lenovo support are. They clearly do not communicate with their repair engineers, do not collect and collate information on bugs and known solutions to help them fix issues like this. For example, if they were aware that people like you, me and countless others who have reported this online, had issues that are known not to have been solved by their engineers, then instead of putting us through 7 months of misery, they could instantly replace or refund the products, send all our faulty machines to the same lab, and study the fault (with possibly the help of Intel, MS, etc). That would be what an intelligent company would do that actually cared about quality and didn't treat customers with contempt.
