Lenovo Ideapad 100s 14 inch won't fully charge on Windows 10

I bought this laptop (Ideapad 100s-14IBR) about 2 weeks ago. First I fully restore Windows 10 to start fresh but after a while I notice that when I charge my laptop, it will stop at 80%. It will not charge to 100%.

I looked up on the internet and many suggest that it has something to do with the energy management setup. Suppose it  there are two option 1. fully use the battery 2. optimise the battery life. I search everywhere in my c:\ and I cannot find the "energy management" software.

Others suggested that the battery is dying....but I just bought this laptop...how can that be?

Please help....

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 100s 14 inch won't fully charge on Windows 10

Hi Luciu,

Welcome to the Lenovo community!

System Tray > Lenovo Energy Management > Go to Settings > Turn OFF Conservation Mode > Remove AC adapter > Reinstall AC adapter > It should charge up to 100%.

Also, please do check that under the battery menu in Lenovo energy management, IT IS SET TO 'MAXIMUM BATTERY LIFE' to enable charging to 100%, not Optimised battery health as this will allow your battery to have a longer lifespan.

When i clicked on the battery, and selected "More Power Options," then clicked "change power plan settings" and then I went to "advanced power settings." There is a tab there for Lenovo Energy Management and you have to click "Enable Lenovo Energy Management." Then it pops up.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Shashi

hi shashi,

First of all there is no "Lenovo Energy Management" in my system tray. And When I clicked on battery icon near the system tray, there are no "More power option" there either.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 100s 14 inch won't fully charge on Windows 10

Hi Luciu,

We are sorry to hear that your issue has not yet been fixed.

Method 1.

I had issue where it did not charge at all. Disabled the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery driverShutdown the pc and unplugged it overnight. Switched it on. Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery still disabled. Enabled it and restarted. Now it’s charging. Try that?

Method 2.

You may shut down the computer completely, unplug the power cable, remove the battery and let it rest for about 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, put the battery in its place, plug in the power cord and restart the computer to check if the issue persists.

Method 3.

A simple way to check the integrity of the battery is to remove it entirely and plug in the power cable to the laptop. If the laptop powers on properly, the problem is likely with the battery.

A non-charging battery can sometimes be caused by an overheating laptop. If the laptop is charging for a very long time then the battery becomes quite hot. As the temperature rises, the battery sensor misfires, telling the system that the battery is either fully charged or missing completely, causing the charging problems. This problem becomes far more likely when using the laptop on the couch or in bed, with a blanket or pillow covering the cooling vents. Let the system cool down and take the time to make sure that the air vents are clean and unobstructed.

I hope the above information helps.

Regards,

Shashi

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 100s 14 inch won't fully charge on Windows 10

I was having charging issues also with my Ideapad 100s 11 inch. I just got off the phone with tech support. Here are the steps that resolved my issue.

1. Unplug the charger from the computer.

2. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds

3. plug the charger back in and turn on the computer

When I did that my battery showed that it was fully charged. I havent had a chance to see if it will charge to 100% after it has drained some yet.

I hope this helps.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 100s 14 inch won't fully charge on Windows 10

I read your idea of removing the battery etc., unfortunately the ideapad 100 151BN battery is internal, I will not dismantle a 2 month old machine still under warranty.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 100s 14 inch won't fully charge on Windows 10

Hi there, Orrif -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

The laptop automatically changed the setting by the energy management to maximum battery lifespan. To change this, open the gui interface of energy management. Then go to battery setting to optimize for runtime. This should do.

Since your laptop is brand new, I would recommend you to contact Lenovo service center and report your findings.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 100s 14 inch won't fully charge on Windows 10

I've tried this and other methods listed here, but my laptop is too low on power - the lights only stay on for 4-5 secs before going out, so holding the button down for 15-20 secs without the power supply does nothing (nor does it do anything when plugged in).

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 100s 14 inch won't fully charge on Windows 10

Hi there,  would you be kind enough to give me a walk through  on how to find  this on my laptop because i am having a hard locating this option but still i couldnt find on where  to find even that "System Tray". Perhaps a video or just a photo  would be good.

Thank you  so much
