Lenovo Ideapad 330s -14IKB(Type 81F4) RAM upgrade suggestion

Hello all,

I have purchased a Lenovo Ideapad 330s laptop a few days back. The system configuration is : i3 8th Gen/14inch FHD screen/ 4GB DDR4 RAM/256GB SSD/Intel HD 620 integrated graphics. I believe the RAM is soldered to the motherboard, but this model most probably has two empty SO-DIMM slots. I'm considering to add another 4GB of RAM stick to the laptop to boost performance and this is the RAM I'm considering :

G.Skill RIPJAWS 4GB DDR4 2400Mhz SO-DIMM : https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-2400c16s-4grs

Is this compatible with my model?

Or does someone has something better to suggest?

Any input will be highly appreciated.

Cheers.

Welcome to the forums.

See psref.  Looks like only 1 slot.  4GB soldered.  As to RAM make sure its returnable just in case.  I have personally bought RAM directly from Lenovo that did not work but the exhanged RAM did.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 330s -14IKB(Type 81F4) RAM upgrade suggestion

Hi paper tape.. I too have recently purchased the same 256 gb ssd variant 81F40165IN model. I wanted to install another hdd because 256 gb ssd seems less. Do you have any idea wrt extra slots available on the machine to add an additional hdd. The other variants of the machine have a 1tb hdd as well as a m2 slot for additional ssd installation. Nowhere anything has been mentioned regarding this model and any extra slots to add an additional hdd. Thanks.

It's shown in the HMM (Hardware Maintenance Manual) yes, there is a space for HDD, same as the 15" model (330S-15IKB).

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 330s -14IKB(Type 81F4) RAM upgrade suggestion

Hi green5178,

At the Crucial site says that 16GB chip is compatible for a maximum of 20GB.. Is this right?

Thanx in advanced

Hi stralien!

Thanks for posting in the Community,

PSREF mentioned that memory can be upgraded up to 12GB max only (8GB via one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket + 4GB Soldered),

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 330s -14IKB(Type 81F4) RAM upgrade suggestion

Thank you Hector,
I saw here ( * Ne pas dépasser la mémoire prise en charge par le fabricant. ) what are you saying but I am wondering, why Crucial sells a 16GB chip for this laptop. Is this something like "overclocking"? Is the cpu going to be overheating? I am just wondering...

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 330s -14IKB(Type 81F4) RAM upgrade suggestion

We're not sure why it was posted that way in Crucial website, but official documents states that this model can only handle up to 12 GB Max. Using a 16GB on the available slot may not work, or the laptop won't be able to detect it.
