Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk plugged in but not charging.

So I bought this laptop 3 days ago. It seems like it has a charging problem. It sometimes charges when I let the laptop in sleep mode or close the lid.

I sometimes get a full charge but then, when I'm using it, it just stops charging for no reason.

To "force charge" it, I discovered that if I first unplug the charger from the laptop itself, then disconnect the cable from the power brick, plug it back in the laptop and connect the brick back again, it seems to charge for around 4 more minutes.

I tried updateing the BIOS with the support from the official Lenovo support site (this one) but it does not work.

I heard about the removing the battery and pressing the power button but I can't remove the battery.

The power brick and charger are original and seem to work fine. Should I try buying another charger?

Please resond to this as I'm desperate. Thanks much !

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk plugged in but not charging.

Hello KudosLover

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Does it stop at a certain charge level?

The issue you are experiencing could potentially be related to peice of software installed on the unit called Lenovo energy management.  Within this software there is an option to only partially charge the units battery which although it doesn’t give you a full charge it will prolong the lifespan of the battery.

1.  On the desktop click the “Show hidden icons button”

2.  Double click the “Energy Manager” icon

3.  Click the “Maintenance” icon

4.  Click the “Settings” icon, and then disable the “Conservation mode” by clicking the slider

OR

1.  Please search under “settings” for “energy” and click “Change Battery settings”

2.  Then click “change plan settings” and then “change advanced power settings”

3. Then click the tab for “Lenovo energy management” and then “Enable Lenovo energy management”

4. Under Battery the settings from “Optimized Battery Health” as shown below to “Maximum Battery Life”

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk plugged in but not charging.

I can't actually find Lenovo energy management on my laptop and I couldn't really understand the part with ..show hidden icons.. on the desktop, since I'm using Windows 10 Pro  . It doesn't really have a deadline when it comes to charging, I can get a full charge if I just close the lid and replug the charger a couple of times. But sometimes when I plug it in it doesn't charge, only if I use the method that I talked about in the first post which gives me like 3% of charge more. And then it stops again.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk plugged in but not charging.

Thats ok, in this case, Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.

(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk plugged in but not charging.

It seems like it works for now. I'll test it later by running a game or something like that. That's when the laptop usually stops charging, mainly when I am playing games. I'll come back with updates.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk plugged in but not charging.

Well I tested to see if the charging would go on while playing a game and unfortunately it won't charge. It seems like it stops somewhere between 21% and 35%. I repeat, this only happens when I'm using the laptop. If I just put it in sleep mode and let it charge I always get a full charge.

These are the actual charger specs. I believe it's the right one for this laptop.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk plugged in but not charging.

After all, I decided to reinstall my windows which apparently solved the problem. I formatted all partitions and now it charges without a problem. Thanks a lot.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk plugged in but not charging.

Sorry about the late reply, glad to hear you have managed to resolve the issue, sounds like it was due to some sort of software in this case, keep an eye out when you`re reinstalling stuff, see if anything could cause this to happen.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk plugged in but not charging.

Hi Krakken,

I have the same problem of "Plugged in and not charging" with the Ideapad 700-15ISK as well.
Did you figure out the reason this was happening?

I tried to follow your instructions but I do not find the energy manager on my laptop. So if you have a better solution than reinstalling windows, I'm all ears.

Have a nice day,
Morgane
