Lenovo Ideapad 720s-14IKB Fingerprint Scanner Problem

Hi.

My fingerprint scanner worked when I got the laptop November 2017 and then all of a sudden it stopped working.

I thought it might have been an update for Windows or problems with the Lenovo Drivers.

It showed up on and off in the Device Manager area but always with the Error Code 10 when it did show up.

Most if the time it wasnt even on the list.

I have done all the steps ive read from unistalling and reinstalling drivers, updating bios, clearing TPM on both windows and bios, Windows In-Place Upgrade,etc.... NOTHINGhas worked.

Spoke to Lenovo Live Help

Nothing worked they told me to contact Microsoft.

Spoke to Microsoft Live Help

Nothing worked. They could not get it fixed.

Now after a BIOS update that Lenovo suggested it showed up again but now says:

Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.

Pic attached.

Then it disappeard again from the Device Manager List!

After trying all this....is this what I think it is??

Hardware malfunction and I will need to send it back to Lenovo for replacement??

Wanted to hear all your thoughts!

For me, it said the new driver couldn't be installed so I just rolled the driver back. It is working again... let's see when the new driver patch is released. Hope this helps!

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 720s-14IKB Fingerprint Scanner Problem

Welcome to the Community Forums! You could first try reseting the BIOS to default. Here are some ways to access the BIOS: https://lnv.gy/2NZTASK . Once there, press F9 or Fn+F9 to reset BIOS to Default, and then F10 or Fn+F10 for save and exit. If it still not working, try to uninstall the driver from device manager, make it sure to put a check on "Delete driver software" in confirmation dialog box. Then, try to to download the Fingerprint reader driver from our site: https://lnv.gy/2O29Z9b

Go to device manager, biometric devices, open the drop-down, right-click the Synaptics item, click on properties, go over to the driver tab, and then click rollback.
