Lenovo Ideapad Laptop Issue - Graphics Card

I have gone to a local BestBuy store and they have looked at my laptop. What happens with it is that whenever I turn the laptop on the screen turns grey and does not show anything. I can hear the hard drive running so I know its on. The person I showed my laptop to says it is the graphics card that stopped working. They can't fix it themself since the graphics card is built into the laptop itself. I'm not exactly sure what to do and have talked to several people about my issue. I have been told I should send my laptop into the Lenovo company itself and that they would fix it. The main issue I have now is that I am being told my warrenty is expired. The thing is that the store I bought my laptop from apparently bought it from the Lenovo company itself in September of last year which is when the warrenty apparnetly started since the laptop was bought. I bought my laptop frm the store in February of this year but I am unable to prove so because I have lost the receipt. I thought maybe I could just renew the warrenty? but not sure how much that would cost. I need suggestions

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Laptop Issue - Graphics Card

Hi @ChocolateBunny4

Welcome to Community Forums!

Where did you purchase your computer?

If you have purchased it online then the Invoice/receipt should have been sent on your email.

If you purchased directly from the store then you can try to ask for a copy of your receipt from them.

Have you tried connecting your laptop to an external monitor?

Is the Caps Lock  or the Num lock LED responding when your hit those buttons.

You can try these steps:

Perform a power drain Desktop

  1. Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
  2. Hold down the power button for at least 15 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cable and try turning it back on
Access BIOS through the Novo button

Or Access BIOS through F1 ( Pressing power & immediately tapping F1 )

  • Once successfully accessed BIOS hit F9/Fn+F9 (YES) to restore BIOS to defaults then hit F10/Fn+F10 (YES) to save changes made.

Let us know how it goes

Regards

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Laptop Issue - Graphics Card

The LED does show when I press the Num Lock and Caps lock. I tried the key combination and it did not appear to work. I am unsure how to connect it to an external monitor and will ask someone else to help me with that. Is there any other suggestions you have? I did buy my laptop in a store so I will try to go there and ask them to reprint a receipt for me.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Laptop Issue - Graphics Card

Hi @ChocolateBunny4

If the power light stays ON are the Caps lock / Num Lock Turns on when your hit the those Keys then the problem that you are having is a NO POST problem.

NO POST is when the POST Process fails.
POST (Power-On Self-Test) is the diagnostic testing sequence that a computer's basic input/output system (or "starting program") runs to determine if the computer keyboard, random access memory, disk drives, and other hardware are working correctly.

The Below Steps are the Troubleshooting for NO POST though if you are not comfortable doing it then try to secure a copy of your receipt from the store where you bought is from so you can heave your computer serviced for free especially if there are parts that are needed to be replaced.

Method 1: Perform a power drain Desktop

  1. Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
  2. Hold down the power button for at least 15 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cable and try turning it back on

Method 2: Try turning ON the computer w/o the RAM and check if you'll see any display on the computer.

Method 3: Reaseat the following Components of the computer.

Let us know how it goes

Regards

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Laptop Issue - Graphics Card

The num lock and caps lock don't stay on but they respond when I keep clicking them. I will be getting a receipt from the store I bought it from sometime soon and I'll let you know once I got one

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Laptop Issue - Graphics Card

I was able to aquire a receipt proving I bought my laptop on February 11th of 2019. What is the next step I should do to be able to get this fixed? I know I'll have to get it mailed out to get it fixed but I need the info of where to mail it and what info I need to mail with it including the receipt. Do I have to mail it in it's original box? I do still have it.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Laptop Issue - Graphics Card

Hi @ChocolateBunny4

Welcome to Community Forums!

Since you already have a receipt you may contact Lenovo support through 877-453-6686 so they can update your warranty before they could create a Service request for your device.

Depending on your warranty, Lenovo will either be taking care of the shipping label and the box to be sent to you or you will be the one who will produce your own box and get a shipping label from your desired courier.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards
