Lenovo Ideapad S330-15ARR hardware upgrade (SSD storage and RAM)

Got this laptop couple weeks ago as my previous one died.

This one has the AMD chipset and comes with 4GB (removable) + 4GB (on board) = 8 GB RAM. The model contains 120 GB SSD.

First thing I did was cloned the 120 GB SSD into a 500 GB SSD, one that I pulled out from the older laptop (of course backed up and formatted etc.). Used Macrium Reflect 7 for that purpose. Now given that the clone leaves behind about 380 GB unused partition. You can use any disk utility to create a new partition onto this unused portion. At the end of this exercise, I have a 120 GB main partition (called it C:\) and yet another one (D:\).

Second, I wanted to upgrade the RAM. So I got a 16GB RAM from amazon "Crucial 16GB Single DDR4 2666 MT/s (PC4-21300) DR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT16G4SFD8266 ". Replaced the removable RAM with this new one.

Now I have 20 GB RAM and 500 GB SSD.

Everything runs like a charm.

A very big thank you for these precious informations, expecially about the RAM. The upgrade to 20 GB on this model was one of the most popular questions here. Did you check if it runs in dual channel mode? I guess/hope it should run 8 GB dual and the rest in 12 in single.

Appreciate your reply.

I get 'Dual'. Here's a screenshot of 'CPU-Z'.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad S330-15ARR hardware upgrade (SSD storage and RAM)

I want to ask for this specific model, what storage options are there?

Is it only a PCIe slot for ssd? Is there only one slot or can you add another ssd in another slot?

Is the PCI slot for NVME, is it m.2 or sata?

Is there a space available for a 2.5 inch sata ssd?

The hardware maintenance manual does not make this clear.

Thank you.

I can confirm that the Ideapad 330S-15ARR with Ryzen 5 2500u (and above) has one M.2 PCI-E NVMe slot up to 512 GB (officialy) and one 2,5" SATA III slot up to 2 TB (officialy). Other models may have a different configuration.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad S330-15ARR hardware upgrade (SSD storage and RAM)

Did you install your 500GB SSD into the M.2 PCIe slot?  I ask because the hardware reference manual for this model indicates the M.2 slot supports a max size of 256GB. If yours works, the manual is inaccurate.

I just ordered a 330S-15ARR with Ryzen 5 from BB. It comes with only 128GB SSD. I want to install the largest PCIe drive possible.

I removed the drive that came with the laptop and IN IT's PLACE substituted one with 500 GB.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad S330-15ARR hardware upgrade (SSD storage and RAM)

Was the laptop's original SSD an M.2 PCIe?   Or was it installed in the 2.5" drive bay?

The 2.5" bay.

In case you experiment with the M.2 PCIe, and get success, please let us know here.

Enjoy your new laptop! :-)
