Welcome to the Forums Pravin.

  1. Unplug AC adapter (remove from notebook).
  2. Remove main battery
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds (power drain)
  4. Replace main battery
  5. Replace AC adapter

Update us how it goes.

Re: Lenovo flex 3 , black screen of death, no Mouse pointer, power light no , No lights on key board

In response to customer reports of displays or screens turning off on Lenovo systems while in use and running on battery power, Lenovo has released a solution via update to the Intel Management Engine Firmware, v.11.0.0.1176.

The Intel ME Firmware has been approved for the following models:

  • ideapad 300S-14ISK, ideapad 500S-14ISK
  • Lenovo Edge 2-1580
  • Lenovo Flex 3-1480, Flex 3-1580,
  • Yoga 500-14ISK, Yoga 500-15ISK

The Intel ME Firmware can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds105001

If the solution provided by Lenovo does not resolve the issue for you, other customers report that a workaround provided by customer MattDN93 also resolves the issue. More information about the workaround can be found here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-100-305-500-Edge/Flex-3-screen-turns-off-when-working-on...

My Flex 3 1480 reproducibly breaks down after about half an hour to an hour of uptime after a recent Windows software update (a couple weeks ago). I experience a black screen with no cursor when not running on battery power, i.e. with the power cord plugged in.

I have installed the Intel Management Engine Firmware.

This was followed by Windows Update automatically overwriting the Intel Management Engine Firmware, likely resulting in a downgrade.

After that, the black screen re-occurred.

I then launched the Intel Management Engine setup tool to uninstall and reinstall. The uninstall worked but my attempts to reinstall were aborted with a "fatal error".

The problem persists, i.e. my laptop repeatedly goes to a black screen without a warning, and only power button long-press enables restarting the machine.

I can provide install logs if necessary.

Questions:

1) How can I interrogate the system to figure out which version of the Intel ME software is running?

2) How can I completely uninstall and reinstall the Intel ME software?

3) How can you make sure that Windows Update does not downgrade software to a faulty version?

4) What changes will actually fix the problem of black screens when running with the power supply?

PS: When posting workarounds, please take into account that "remove the battery" is not an option with the Flex 3 1480, as its battery is not removable.

Re: Lenovo flex 3 , black screen of death, no Mouse pointer, power light no , No lights on key board

I had similar issues with mine... this link was suggested to me and for the past about 6 weeks it has been great.  Woth a shot!  Took about 15 minutes or so to go thru it all.  Mine started messing up after W10 did their anniversary update.  Screen would go black with no recovery other than a hard shutdown and restart.  Hope this helps you also!

Re: Lenovo flex 3 , black screen of death, no Mouse pointer, power light no , No lights on key board

Lenovo ideapad flex 4-1470 Mod: 80SA

I had regular screen going blank problems.  Use could Ctrl-Alt-Del to wake up.  When I was remotely connected to problem machine, the problem screen would wake up but as soon as the remote session ended, the screen went blank.

Seems like issue started with a Windows Update, do not know which one.

FIX:  Deleted Chrome.

Yep, after hours of observation and updates, I discovered that somehow Chrome caused in.  Uninstalled Chrome, worked for hours.  Reinstalled Chrome and as soon as the successful install message showed up, the screen went blank.   Opened remote access system right next to problem system, as soon as the remote connection was made, screen woke up.

Tried probably all of the stuff you will find in forums with no luck.

Re: Lenovo flex 3 , black screen of death, no Mouse pointer, power light no , No lights on key board

After I wrote the about I found something else to try:

1. Click on Chrome menu, select Settings > Advanced> System,

2. Disable ‘Use hardware acceleration when available’
