Welcome to the Community Forums.
It would be best to play with ac connected as it directly gets power needed to maximize gameplay.
This would also be convenient for the battery, saving battery charge instead of depleting life charge and at the same time charging it to default threshold.
Newer charging technology within the chips controls this mechanism along with the software.
Battery default threshold would stop charging automatically when reached and redirects power demand on ac.
Such ideas was way back when battery has no control limit as it actually would not start charging before 95-96 percent by default. This protective technology was develop to prevent battery from overcharging and overheating.
Hope this helps answer your query.

Yes it would be the alternating current charger or to simply put as the charger you connect from the wall socket. So again, if you are to do extensive work / gaming in a laptop, it would be better playing it while plugged in. Just take care of the heat after all it is not a desktop that have enough ventilation inside.
